2010 Chasse Spleen revisited... A JimHow kind of wine?

Post by JimHow »

Not showing much at the outset.
Liked this the one time I tried it, a few months back.
Revisiting it to assess whether to buy a case.

15 minutes in, this wine still shut tight.
I mean, you know me, I like my wines reserved, but....

Monolithic, as someone might say.
Trying to coax some flavor out of it.
Calon-Segur-like?

Still trying to work some kinks out of my iPhone after that ios8 "upgrade."
Got an app that counts my steps, perfect for my OCD.
Yesterday I took 10,377 steps.
Today only 6,163 so far.

Boy, in big, classic vintages like 2010 Chasse can be a backward animal -- I've been drinking the '89 and '86 which are terrific now and will be good for some years yet.

I'm no fan of Puig but I think Mattingly is making a mistake in benching him.
You gotta bring to the dance the one who got you there... or something like that.
What s great post season this year!

Indeed, Gary, I think this is going to be like one of those 86 or 89s.
It will develop at a glacial pace.

I've been drinking this big boy for an hour now, coaxing, swirling.
Finally a little bit of spice on the nose.

I'm going to buy a case at $35 per bottle.
This wine will age for 40 years, I'll be drinking it when I'm 95.

It will age like a Meyney and Calon Segur.

Yeah, Chasse Spleen is even worse than Calon Segur at strutting her stuff. I like tough gals, though.

I actually tried a 2010 the other night. Macquin. Not to be confused with Pavie-Macquin, it is a St-Georges St-Emilion owned by Denis Corre-Macquin. It is OK for drinking now; actually quite nice; maybe deserving of 87-88 pts. I'll use it for my large BBQ next summer if it is still available locally then. Probably too soft for you, though.

Just last night I tried my first bottle of a case of 2010 Chateau Laronde Desormes, a Bordeaux Superieur. I bought this sight unseen (untasted) based on my experience with the 2005 vintage - which is still quite good. This wine is in a good place already, and is likely to remain enjoyable for 5+ years. Last night it showed a nice combination of fresh dark fruits, adequate structure and evidence of the earth. It was very nice with a grilled ribeye. I'm actually tempted to buy another case if I can find it.

Because of global warming, is St. Estephe the appellation of the future?

I split it with my father and brother, but I tasted enough of it to know it is a JimHow kind o wine.
I'll pick up a case in the Big Apple this weekend!

If the 2010 Château Chasse-Spleen is good with Whoopie pie, it can just be amazing by itself or with a nice steak!

I like my Bordeaux young, Carlos.
I also like it aged.
This was more in the name of science, to try to extrapolate how 2010 Chasse Spleen might age over the next 20 years.
It passed the grade, I'm going to get a case at $35 per bottle.
