I actually asked my friend about the 2010 and 2013 as well. He said 2010 is richer and 2013 shows more straight bright red cherry fruits and big aromatics. While 2014 is more aromatically complex (This was something I noticed as well but didn't quite put to words in my notes.

125 is a very fair price for the 2013. I might pick up a few bottles. Just hard to pay that after paying 80 for the 2014's recently.

Vigna Elena is more aromatic than others because of the Nebbiolo Rose clone. It is the only Barolo cru that is made using 100% Nebbiolo Rose clone....

Yes, I found that quite interesting when I was learning about that while tasting. I probably should have gotten more, but I don't buy a lot of young Barolo. I still have at least 30-40 bottles of old Barolo to get to first and I never find an excuse to drink it.

I think the 2013 is the play at those prices. The $80 was from overseas and we took the last of the bottles of the 2014 I believe.

Thanks, I certainly agree. The bottle I brought to the Thursday dinner stood toe to toe with the 1990 in my opinion. Much fresher, and still has a chance to gain some of the complexities of the 1990. I think it's at it's early peak and is a truly Howquito wine, the only one of those I've drunk with both Jim and Patrick. Figured I had to get enough bottles to track this and share with some fellow BWEers over the coming years.

Thanks Mike. Looks like the same folks who own Michael’s on East, a nice restaurant in Sarasota we’ve enjoyed a few times. Once with Jacques and Jim for a mini BWE gathering. I went in for 6 at that price.

Checked in on my order, they confirmed they have it and the bottles should be in house in the next couple weeks for shipment. Thought there could be some risk of this order going unfulfilled.

The Meo Camuzet is Burgundy Russian Roulette but my downside is £260.

Sadly, however, I got outbid on a lot of three Gruaud Larose 1983, which was paired with three bottles of L’Arrivet Haut Brion 1985. I really set my heart on that lot.

Interesting about the 2003 St. Pierre, IJ, I do remember a certain buzz about that wine when it came out. I remember getting a bunch for $25per bottle in NH.

I'm not sure if I should use Cellartracker as a price guide when bidding at auction, but CT says its auction value is $45 US, so $70 NZ. The three bottles went for $150 each NZ. Shame, as I generally like St Pierre and was keen on snapping them up.

Current lowest retail price of 2003 St Pierre in the USA is $89. A lot of three went at auction for $226 a short time ago. It was a great buy at $25-$30. I won't reload unless I find it way below market.

You probably know this, but the WMJ auction pricing displayed on CT can occasionally be based on the sale of as little as one bottle. Q: Do you store successive price points so we can see historical gains?
A: The WMJ has data going back to 1997. On CellarTracker we expose the most recent quarter of data and up to 6 months of history. Subscribers to the WMJ can also go to their site to see the full pricing history.

Here are some specific facts about the auction pricing information from the WMJ:

• The data is based on the trailing 12-month average of auction lots. The data goes back to 1997, and the most recently available 12 months is used for the valuation.

• Data is for specific vintages and formats (375ml, 750ml, 1.5L etc.) of a given wine. All vintage mappings match the wine the data is linked to.

• Prices are grossed up to represent cost to the buyer, inclusive of all buyer's premiums as charged by each auction house. This is a good insurance replacement value but is higher by around 30% than what sellers net at auction (which is hammer minus seller’s premium and other seller fees).

• The data is updated quarterly.

• We have data on nearly 150,000 wines and have mapped 100% of this.

• Only 1 sale was required in a year to surface a hammer price, although most wines have many more. The number of sales is not exposed on CellarTracker, but subscribers to the WMJ have rich drilldown ability to see the underlying auction data.
