ok thanks Gerry but don't sweat it, it would be nice to pick some up for the BD Champagne reception in DC, but if not it's not the end of the world.

Has anyone tried 2015 du Tertre, and if so what did you think about it?

Tried at the UGC. It was good, although in my notes, I ranked Brane Cantenac, Rauzan and Giscours above it and rated as around 90...It had less structure than Giscours, and less expressive on the nose than the others I mentioned above, but all in all Du Tertre was well crafted. Especially under 40 bucks, in my book it vies for the QPR wine of the vintage...

Ok thanks, I would've thought it would have really shined in that "Margaux vintage," although I think it was The Sucker who called it the best du Tertre ever.

I agree with Chateau vin: an excellent du Tertre in 2015, but a bit more heavy and bit less elegance than the other Margaux. But also 90 points in my book, with room for improvement.

Since last posting here about wine purchases I have been trying to slow em down but it is like spending three days climbing walls in a cold sweat - my last and most exciting recent purchase is six bottles of La Briccolina Barolo 2013.

That’s it.

3x 2014 Ch. Pierre de Montignac, Haut Medoc - nice little Cru Bourgeois, very accessible now, went on sale at Total Wine so I'm supplementing my case plus on-hand supply.
2x 2014 Ch. Capbern, St. Estephe - 14.5%abv, ready to drink after a short decant. Lots of ripe black fruit.
3x 2014 La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou - never had it, going on Cellartracker reviews, and I've already enjoyed some other seconds of seconds. The OWC was opened for me so I know they have more. :)
1x 2012 Ch. Rauzan Segla - my 4th bottle for the cellar. I'll start buying 2015s when they arrive.

I got four bottles of that 2012 Rauzan Segla for my son's birth year...seems like it will last

Just picked up a full case of 2004 Belair (Dubois-Chalon), a St Emilion grand cru, for $27/bottle all in. VERY old school traditional wine of a kind that's hard to get these days. Interested to try it...not going to be big or plush but could be very interesting. Kind of a lot for me, I almost never get cases, but had wanted to try this off Keith Levenbergs recommendation for a while and old bottles of this are hard to find at this price.

I purchased 4 a few months ago. I've consumed 2 other bottles over the last year. It's a lovely wine. Accessible now but will improve with moderate aging. I also bought a 2014.

Missing out on the convention, I’ve consoled myself picking up these wines:
3 bottles 1995 Ducru Beaucaillou
4 bottles 1995 Cos d’Estournel
4 bottles 1995 GPL (this vintage has a BD exemption)
4 bottles 1995 Lynch Bages

Pretty happy with these! I wonder if the Lynch is good, it was in a lot with the Ducru, so I went for it after reading Ian’s notes on the 95’s potential.

The Ducru and the GPL are brilliant. We did a 1995 horizontal in London in Dec 2011 just after I remigrated with Neal M, and the GPL was wotn followed by Pichon Lalande followed by Ducru...but I think the Ducru has come up in the ranks in the last few years.

I have not tried 95 Cos (hint, hint)

Patrick, Timmy Mc and I are having a mini BWE convention in mid April (13-14) - any BWErs from around planet earth want to join?

We have an ambitious agenda.

Good to hear. I think the 96 Lynch is turning into a gem, it was great (if a bit under the radar) at the '16 and '17 Conventions, so I figured the 95 must be at least good. I've only had the 95 Cos once, a few years ago in NYC served blind, and I thought it was terrific, right there with the 95 PLL...

Ian, glad to hear Timmy will be joining us. After the Dc festivities conclude, we should post a new thread on the London BWE reprise in mid-April!

Patrick/Ian,

Too bad there wasn't more advanced notice...Springtime in London sounds good but we'll be slumming it in New Orleans,Savannah then hooking up with my brother Larry and his wife for a week in Hilton Head to golf. We'll just have to make it to London another time. The previous two visits have been too short and we still have those theater tickets for Wicked that are still open anytime in the future. Nice to have an excuse to go back.

I was in Total Wine picking up a bottle of 2002 Palmes D'Or for an upcoming offline and I couldn't resist getting something else that I really wanted for myself - a bottle of 2009 Ch. Gruaud Larose.

I saw a bottle offered for sale by one of my favorite local retailers and couldn't help myself, its the most I've ever spent for a single bottle, a 1989 Ch Haut Brion. It's my anniversary year so I just bit the bullet. When I went to pick up some recent auction purchases at a local retailer I spied a 2002 vintage Krug and impulsively bought it. Ughhh.

Thanks David for the enablement, lol. From one extreme to another, coming home from work tonight I stopped my the NH State store and couldn't pass up 10 375ml's of 2011 Muga Reserva Rioja for $6/btl.

I just sprung for four bottles of the 2009 Leoville Barton. This is a wine that has increased 20% in price over the last year. I had held off buying it for a while because I hoped it would drop back toward futures prices but no luck. Glad to have it since I love 2009 and I love LB, but wish I had ordered a lot earlier -- might have been able to get more.

Has anyone else noticed prices going up quite a bit lately?

Yes.

Lots of stuff is up a ton, northern Rhône has gone nuts, champagne has gone from strength to strength, barolo has really escalated especially around the hyped 2013 vintage, many Bordeaux are now way up there (for example Montrose, Pichon Baron and Lynch Bages have shot up a ton in the last couple of years without showing signs of leveling off).

Northern Rhones indeed have gone bonkers. I hope some of the folks laying down cases of stuff with high ratings actually will enjoy/tolerate the stuff after some years. They are rarely popularly styled (maybe Guigal's amazing La La's are the exception) and people may end up disappointed after few years. My wife usually rejects them without knowing what they are, unless they are big years like 2003.

Christmas (circa 1995) came early to the Martin household! My recent haul of ‘95’s arrived today!

Never bought from this auction site before (Heritage), but I must say, these bottles look to be in excellent condition.

No, David the 1995 GPL was the one good vintage produced by that estate since the variable 1982.
(Well, ok, I'll admit I'm not recalling having consumed the 1990.)

They snuck that GPL into a lot with the good stuff! Actually, I believe the 1995 GPL has the BD’s mark of approval and is hence exempt for the BWE ban?

That is correct, Patrick, the 1995 GPL is a great wine. The 2014 may be a good one too. The 1982 can be great when you have a good bottle.
Other than that, eh. We had a 2012 GPL in Nic/Jean-fred's room this past weekend that was putrid.
