Jimmy is loading up on 2014, nice! The picture makes it twice as much fun.
I see you've gotten over your pique over the treatment at Lynch Bages a couple years ago.

2016 Lilian Ladouys x 12 as futures. My first, and perhaps only, purchase of 2016. I'm pretty confident I will live long enough to enjoy these. :)

Ha ha, I got them at a good price and you know I like 2014 left bank... and right bank as well, for that matter.

I immediately covered the case with a spare cover from the garage and placed it at the bottom of a pile of cases.
I had to act quickly, I was getting weak....

Bobby apparently the 2001 SMCJG benefits from a long decant - see CT. I have been popping and pouring mine which has been a mistake, which I won’t repeat with my remaining two.

Good to know, I have not had one before!

Damn, party in Orlando! That’s a serious haul of some killer wines. The 1970 Magdelaine is an absolutely sensational wine and hard to find. Where were you shopping?

The Cuvée Jean Gautreau is a specific barrel selection made in the winery, where some 80 barrels, matured in 100% new oak, are whittled down to just three of the best barrels, or approximately 900 bottles.

I was amazed to learn what is the cuvée Jean Gautreau, from the Man, in my visit in 2012 : his favorite barrels bottled in a single cuvée. But Mr. Gautreau being himself, making that in a very "simple" way. His "favorite barrels" are bottled in that different cuvée, but for him, it is kind of a useless thing, as all the wine he is making is great. So he bottled the cuvée Jean Gautreau in a different bottle, with a different label, and sell it 2 euros more than his regular cuvée. Not + 100 euros because it is his best barrels...

And on the visit, they gave you the report of the blind comparison of the two cuvées by some critics on many vintages... and 50 % of the time, it is the regular cuvée that is the preferred...

I like the Man.

4 x 2016 Domaine Baudry Clos Guillot

I put Baudry up there with Sociando, two wines that I pretty much buy every year. Phenomenal track record, incredible value. It was $33. This bottling is the merlot of Cab Franc, always rounder and more creamy than the other cuvees of Baudry, but never glossy. This is old world stuff. I can see all of you BWE ballers (in a budget) really enjoying the ripe 2015 Loire vintage expressed by this Cuvee.

Haven't had it yet. Do you have any tasting note?

Mine is based on 2014 wine and was disgorged in March '18.

I bought a six pack of Canonica Paiagallo Barolo 2015...I was offered it so I took it, rare earth Barolo.

I bought a six pack of Bruno Clavelier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combes D’Orveaux 2011, after trying a super bottle of the 2004 from the Claude Kolm collection.

With the proceeds from the sale of a case of 2003 Giscours I purchased a case of 1995 Magdelaine, the Giscours proceeds financed 90% of the transaction. I was happy with that particularly after reading Salil’s notes on CT.

I also bought a case of the Radford Dale Renaissance Chenin Blanc 2016, where the vineyards are inundated by the sea spray of the great white invested waters of False Bay.

I think I am pretty much done for the year.

Blanquito, Comte, nice picks.

Effectively, I had the 1974 Mondavi Reserve twice, stellar both times. I' m looking forward your comments on the regular cuvée.

The 1995 Magdelaine is a very traditionnal style Saint-Émilion, in a very very good way.

I hope your bottles perform well, Patrick. The bottle I brought to Denver was the Reserve. I think the ones in The WB auction were the standard ones. It would be interesting to compare them side-by-side.

I now have 800 bottles and I am actually not a big drinker, so I've decided never to buy any wine ever again. I'm through, folks!

My last purchases were:

2*2013 and 2*2014 Hudelot-Noellat Clos De Vougeot

and my 2016 futures that finally arrived -- 6* 2016 Pichon Baron, 4*2016 Leoville Barton

that's it, my final wine collection purchases in perpetuity

Rats! I remember thinking your bottle was not the Reserve, Stu.

Oh well, I hear very good things about the 74 Napa bottling. I’ll save one for our next meet up.

I wish you well in your endeavors, but the wine-buying night is dark and full of terrors.

I’ve sworn off further wine buying more times than I care to admit. I think the longest I’ve gone was a 3-month chip befire falling off the wagon.

I too have about 800 bottles in my cellar.
I too drink basically one night per week, sometimes two.
I will buy exactly 200 bottles from the 2016 vintage to round out my cellar, and that will be the end of it.
Since I hope to live to (only) about 80, that should be about 50 bottles per year.

Jim / Marcus,

With all due respect, I call bullsh*t as while you both might be done buying or thinking of buying cellar-worthy reds, I honestly think that you were both either not considering or forgetting about the impromptu white, rose and champagne purchases; when sitting by the pool on a hot afternoon or when you bring home a bushel of clams or a couple of fresh Maine lobsters etc.
