You were the one who outbid me on those 89 Lagunes!

Why the hell were you bidding on La Lagune! I have a BWE exclusive on them, granted by the BD himself. You should contact me before bidding--I will "happily" share.

I am dangerously* low on L-L. PC stiffed me on cases of 2009 and 2010, and this was the first chance I had to get the 2009 at an acceptable price. I finished my 1989s almost two years ago and have been looking for refills ever since.

*Lucie gets violent when she doesn't get served La Lagune when she "requests" one.

Effectively, the 2015 La Lagune is very good stuff. For whatever reason i did not buy 2015, but I bought some 2016.

At the latest Skinner auction a single lot of 2 bottles.

1978 Ch Haut Brion
1979 Ch Haut Brion

Prices were a little aggressive considering the bottle conditions for many of the lots.

Gerry, have you found Skinner to be reliable and trustworthy? Some of the old bottles seem to sell for well below FMV, too good to be true. Not much information about provenance, just the name of the collection.

Stu,

I've found Skinner to be very good. I've gotten some great deals including a 6 bottle lot of 89' Talbot the previous auction for just under $60/btl. Two bottles in so far and they've been sound. I've been buying from them regularly for the last 3 or 4 years and have only had corked bottles from a single lot of BV GDL from the 70s. The vig is a little steep at 23% but I live close enough to pick up at their retail partner. Not entirely sure what the shipping process is. I know there is a third party consent form involved.

Picked up a case of the 2016 Clerc Milon off Posner’s email yesterday for $69.99/btl as while it is not the cheapest price out there, it is cheaper than the current wholesale replacement costs at present.

2x 2014 Labegorce

This time I ordered from the Milford Total Wine and arranged to have one of the store staff bring it to Manchester at no added charge.

Had a good day at auction today

I got 2 bottles of 2001 Laville Haut-Brion for £260 - ex premium
A mixed case of old Bordeaux which included 2 bottles of 1971 Ducru B and 1 1962 DB £250
3 bottles of 1961 Gazin £170 - good levels... I figured I was exposing myself to the tail risk they could be nearly as good as 1961 Petrus
10 bottles of 1971 Bon Pasteur -£100
6 bottles of 1985 Bouchard Beaune Teurons - £110

Marcs, I'm feeling very virtuous.
Everything fits in the cellar.
I have regained the moral authority, if not the temerity, to question the volume of shoe/clothing/furnishing purchases.

My tricks for when I feel weak:
- All wine promo emails go straight to trash before opening.
- Keep CellarTracker open and refer to how much is already there when I get the urge, like when reading BWE.
- Stick to my pledge to put all shopping carts on hold until the next day. Sleep on it.

2014 Ducru Beaucaillou: $102.49 x 7
2014 Cos d'Estournel: $113.99 x 6
2014 Langoa Barton: $39.99 x 6
PLUS $250 gift card.
PLUS I'm being credited significantly on the ten 2014 Pichon Lalandes I bought, the prices for those will end up being $89.
The 2016s have arrived in NH.

Here's another cellartracker trick. shorten all the drinking windows of the wine in your cellar and actually use the Ready to Drink page to make decisions on what to open next.
Unfortunately, with my young cellar, I rarely have a whole bottle ready to drink so am constantly opening bottles with a drinkability score of around minus 0.50.

Unfortunately, I dont have Jim's kind of clout at my local NH store to get deals off of promo but...... I just called my store and they will hold a case of 2016 Ch Calon Segur for me until the 12th when the next gift card promo starts. Price is $107.49 but with the gift card give away it brings the net down to just under $90.

Gerry:
Between the two Nashua stores they are holding a total of 15 bottles of '14 Ducru at $102, 6 bottles of '14 Cos at $113, and 6 bottles of '14 Langoa at $39.
They are holding for me until the gift card promo next weekend, at which time I'll get a total of $375 in gift cards.
Plus, they are going to credit me for my past purchases of Lalande (down to $88), Ducru (down to $102), and Clerc (down to $45).
I'm gonna try to get my 2016 buying in next weekend and accumulate even more gift cards!
It's a tax-free Granite State Bordeaux-fest!

Still waiting on my 2016 futures from K&L, so I consoled myself with this...

-4 bottles of the 2010 Gerard Boulay Clos de Beaujea

Tom brought one to the pool party which was terrific, it even made me crave oysters in Colorado (only 1000 miles to nearest ocean)!

Connecticut TW is having a 15% off sale that includes most Bordeaux.
With my limited budget, today I chose to buy a third bottle of '14 Cos for my cellar (Manchester has 2 left) , and a second bottle of '12 Les Carmes (their last one), along with six summer quaffers (4 white) under $25 in order to get the deal.
I have my eye on a few more choice bottles that I want in my cellar. I'll go back in for them around the first of August, right before the sale ends.

As many of you know, over the last week Jim and I have been pillaging the NH state stores for the 2014 Bordeaux close-out. I also stocked up on 2008 Cristal and 2016 Calon Segur thinking I won't find much better pricing. Below is the summary for everything and bottle price on close-out,

Ch Beychevelle 4 58.72
Ch Brane Cantenac 3 43.49
Ch Haut Bailly 4 58.99
Ch Leoville Las Cases 3 129.49
Ch Malescot 2 40.99
Ch Figeac 3 81.49
Ch Cantenac Brown 1 35.99
Ch Pichon Baron 2 89.49
Ch Haut Brion 1 320.99
Ch Mouton Rothschild 2 320.99
Ch D'Issan 1 41.49
Ch Ducru Beaucaillou 6 102.49
Ch La Mission Haut Brion 2 194.49
Ch La Conseillante 3 89.49
Ch Reserve Comteese Lalande 1 30.49
2008 Cristal 6 229.99
2016 Ch Calon Segur 12 107.49

It's way more than I intended but the prices were extremely good and I ended up with $1,250 in gift cards which I'm sure will not go to waste

Very, very well done indeed, Gerry.
Those are great prices and even more amazing when factoring in the gift cards.
I mean, really, when you get $50 "rebated" in gift cards on a $320.99 purchase of Mouton, you are really paying like $270.99.
2016 Calon Segur sounds like a pretty special wine, I'm going to dig in this week.

I use cellar tracker to manage my cellar along with prices paid. I'm always torn on how to reflect the gift cards, on the front end or back end of the deal or try to restate the costs based on what I get with the cards. Oh well, I was thinking I could take the cards and get nearly 4 bottles of Mouton for "free" then spend $250 and get a another $250 gift card back! I swear, this gift card promo is the wackiest thing ever. I was so wrapped up in chasing the Bordeaux I completely pretty much ignored whatever Burg's they may have had. A cursory glance didn't show any screaming deals on anything worthwhile
