Love this stuff. And it’s a killer vintage for this wine.

JC, that’s a great great price on the Gonon!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
1 Perrier-Jouet Brut.
This one I have to explain. We are at our lake house, Lucie demands Champagne, and stupid stefan neglected buy any to ship. Fred Meyer has a modest collection of wines and P-J is the best (for our taste) of their Champagnes. I could have bought six bottles of wine in order to get 10% off. Maybe I should have broken down and bought 2016 Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse (the best white wine choice) and maybe some sparkler for mimosas and get a total of six bottles, but that meant adding five bottles I did not really want to a huge load of groceries, so I decided against saving the six dollars.

From a UK broker. 90 Pounds per, with costly shipping, comes to $132 USD per. I’m good with that price.jckba wrote:Approximate price paid per btl just to get an idea of where this is trading at and where’d you source it?OrlandoRobert wrote:A case of 2000 Chateau Magdelaine

I got some 2000 Magdelaine a year ago for $93.50 all-in at WineBid. Might look back on that as a serious steal before long.

I find this totally logical!stefan wrote:1 Perrier-Jouet Brut.

1 bottle 1985 Talbot $67 all-in at auction
13 bottles 2009 Ridge Geyserville $33 all-in at auction
I was winning a 3 bottle lot of the 1995 Sociando Mallet, but someone named “alfalf” outbid me. Sound like anyone we know?

The one time I had 1990 Figeac, it was an earth-moving experience. Hope yours are as good.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Just had the 90 Figeac recently, a bottle that Chris B brought to a wine dinner, and yes, the earth moved. Pricey wine but OMG stuff.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I am still a value shopper when it comes to burgundy and I try to stick to producers I’ve had luck with and as such; I picked up a bunch of 1er Crus as that is the range I am most comfortable in

Damn Total Wine and their flash sale. I had planned on waiting until the first of September to spend more money. At least I held it to about $200 (this time.)

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Those are from the same cellar I've gotten similar wines from in the past.
Its a downpayment on some work I will be doing for him.
He also offered a 5 bottle '80s vertical (1,2,3,5,6) of Ch. Margaux in trade for work I'm already doing on a tight timeline.
I opened the de Fieuzal last night. Funky on opening. Mary said ashtray and wet socks. The funk blew off but the herbal/mineral features remained as the fruit woke up. Red fruited, with ashtray and green bean dominating the flavor profile. Modest finish. No hint of remaining tannins. Its something Bobby Orlando might like, but not something I would seek more of.

2018 Pradeaux Bandol Rosé
2007 Veuve Fourny Blanc de Blancs Vertus Extra Brut 1er Cru “Cuvée du Clos Faubourg Notre Dame”
I'm excited about trying this Champagne, here's what the Kermit Lynch site says about it:
• The tête de cuvée of Champagne Veuve Fourny of 100% Chardonnay, all sourced from a small, walled-in clos right next to their winery in
Vertus, planted with their oldest (60 years old) vines in pure chalk
• Wine goes through malolactic fermentation, vinified in barrel
• Only released in special years after aging for at least 9 years in bottle
• Incredible capacity for aging
• Current disgorgement: August 2018
• Dosage approximately 3 grams/liter
This will be either great or a big disappointment

All the talk about Figeac in the other thread made me abandon my summer buying freeze 3 days short of my goal:
2 1990 Figeac

All pre-Rolland I believe.

Good going, youngster David!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
After sending 199 bottles of wine off to sell at auction this week, I rewarded myself with:
-4 bottles 2016 Grand Puy Lacoste (per Ian’s notes)
-4 bottles 2017 Niellon Chassagne Montrachet (per all things Jacques)
The Niellon is pretty reasonable given my 15% discount at K&L, making them $42.50/each.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Picked up a case of Diebolt-Vallois BdB for $25/btl @ Zachys during the first installment of their Labor Day Flat Sale as I needed a new house champagne on the cheap and this fits that to the T.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
How do you get a 15% discount at K&L, Patrick?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Easiest way is from auction proceeds— if you take store credit instead of cash, they waive the 15% seller’s commission. So I think of it as 15% off what I’d pay if using cash.stefan wrote:How do you get a 15% discount at K&L, Patrick?
Not bad for dumping wines I have outgrown (eg post-2001 chateauneuf du Pape, recent Right Bankers, anything overtly modern) or overbought (eg off-dry Riesling) or which are not worth their current pricing (eg Gonon St Joseph, bought for $30-35, sold for $130-$135).

Read some very positive notes on the 2017 Niellon Bourgogne blanc on Berserkers, so I figured the Chassagne village had to be good!jal wrote:I haven't tasted the 2017 Niellon Chassagne Village Patrick. Hopefully it won't disappoint.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I see, Patrick. Also you do not pay capital gains tax on wines you consign that way. Very wise.
But no good for me as I have never sold a bottle of wine and have no intentions of parting with any of my darlings except by consuming them.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Indeed, my approach only makes sense if a portion of your cellar qualifies for one or more of my criteria for "dumping" wine. In defense of my bonafides as a wine enthusiast, I have (so far) used the entirety of my January purge at KL auctions on store credit!stefan wrote:I see, Patrick. I was at my local grocery store and as I cruised by the wine department I see 2 2009 Ch. Meyney for $29.99 each. I haven't had Meyney in a while but at that price I bought both.
