This one made Lucie happy:

12 1985 La Lagune $676.50.

It has been almost ten years since we finished our third case of 1985 La Lagune. It will be good to revisit an old friend.

Nice! Where'd you buy that? I've been looking for more of that wine at a good price, but no dice (Winebid has had the odd bottle here and there but they've all had low fills, so I've passed). Feel free to PM if you want to keep your LL sources on the QT.

I was in NH today and got the itch to buy. It's especially tough to resist while sitting on a pile of gift cards. I tried to buy a mixed case of 2014 Bordeaux (I know, like I really need any more) but for the 1st time they hit me with " the max you can redeem in a day is $250". My reaction was "hughhh??, since when??" Rather than get into it with the clerk I just pulled 5 bottles to buy and will go back for the rest later.

2- 2014 Cantenac Brown @$35.99
1- 2014 Malescot @$40.99
1- 2014 Lynch-Bages @$81.49
1- 2014 Pichon Baron @$89.49

Total came to $284 so out of pocket was $34 after handing over the $250 gift card.

I did well today at the Bacchus auction in 67 Pall Mall:

I missed out on cases of 2009 La Lagune and 2010 Cantermerle which involved chasing unrealistically low estimates but did manage to hook and haul the following:

A 12-bottle case of 2006 Langoa for £280 ($350)
A 12-bottle case of 2010 Langoa for £380 ($475)
Three bottles of 02 Ducru and three 05 Branaire for £320 ($400)
One magnum of 1989 Hermitage Remezieres for £50 ($60)

Well, I lost control on my wine buying moratorium. The gateway drug was low bidding at auctions, and then with a recent auction featuring well stored lots from a prominent WB poster, I actually snagged 5*1996 Jadot Bonne Mares for well below the retail price of well stored mature Grand Cru Burgundy, and, in a completely unjustified splurge, 6*2008 L'Eglise Clinet at $90/bottle.

$90 / bottle is not actually cheap but it was so far off Winesearcher prices that I lost control. Never actually had L'Eglise Clinet before and Leve reports the 2008 is 14.5% alcohol, kind of high given my tastes and my dislike for spoofulated right bank wines, but I understand it's a pretty good producer that is well balanced. Oh well. Back to the never-ending effort at self control!

Good scores, Marc. $90 for 2008 L'Eglise Clinet is a great price. I had bid on so many by the time I came around to it that I did not bid, but I will be happy to drink yours at some BWE event down the road.

How much was the '96 Jadot Bonnes Mares? I ignored the great deals in Burgundy because my winnings will go to Oregon and I wanted to avoid cross pollination.

Marcs, l'Église-Clinet is fabulous. I'm very jalous that you bought some 2008 at such a good price.

I opened a 2004 this summer that was just the perfect expression of Pomerol. God i liked that 2004 EC.

The Bonnes Mares was $150/bottle all in (both prices are all in prices, including the $90 for the Eglist Clinet).

Kind of pricey, I rarely go to that level. I wouldn't have bought it without knowing it was Mark Golodetz' cellar and hence presumably perfectly stored. But I figured $150 / bottle is a good price even for a current mid-range grand cru, to get a mature top-level grand cru like Bonnes Mares from a good vintage and producer was a good deal even if it wasn't a screaming bargain. I had a couple of good 1990s Jadot grand cru for under $100/bottle but they are gone now and cannot be reloaded at those prices -- aged Burgundy grand crus are an item on my wine life list that may not be available in the future.

The other Bordeaux I bid on was the 2008 Ducru Beaucaillou and the 1995 and 2001 l'Evangile, were you the guy who won those? Maybe we should coordinate :-).

No, I did not buy those, Marc.

Probably I'll stay away from auctions until after Thanksgiving, when I'll receive what I bought already and store in a wine fridge I am having delivered to stefanJr and Irena.

Here's an interview:

http://intelligentcollector.com/sharing-the-bouquet/

Not much about the reason except the generic paragraph at the end:
Your love of wine comes across very clearly. Why are you now selling?
I have been lucky enough to have had a hobby and a profession I have loved. But it’s time to sell. Retirement beckons, and I have much too much wine. I have kept some back, but most need to find new homes, where I hope the bottles will be opened and give a lot of pleasure.
He sold SEVEN THOUSAND bottles at the auction, so I wonder how much he kept back!

Today I added the following 2016s to my cellar from the NH sale, good prices, especially with no sales tax, although not exactly 2014 pricing!
Although, I was able to apply $450 of gift cards on top of the 15% off savings.
Some of the less expensive wines I intend to drink ITNOS to assess the vintage, although I'm also going to crack open one of the Brane Cantenacs and Lafon Rochets as well.

2016 La Fleur de Bouard x 2 @ $29.32/each
2016 Tour St. Christophe x 4 @ 29.32 each
2016 Labegorce x 2 @ $33.99 each
2016 Pedesclaux x 2 @ $48.44 each
2016 Leoville Barton x 1 @ $98.59
2016 Cambon La Pelouse x 1 @ $16.99
2016 Latour Martillac x 2 @ $39.94 each
2016 Lafon-Rochet x 11 @ $50.14 each
2016 Phelan Segur x 6 @ $48.44 each
2016 Charmail x 1 @ $18.69
2016 Calon Segur x 1 @ $91.37
2016 Lanessan x 2 @ $16.99 each
2016 Lagrange x 1 @ $51.84
2016 Corbin x 2 @ $38.24 each
2016 Fonroque x 2 @ $33.99 each
2016 Brane Cantenac x 7 @ $76.07 each
2016 Brown x 1 @ $30.59
2016 Haut-Bergey x 1 @ 25.92
2016 Malescot St. Exupery x 1 @ $60.77
2016 Clos Marsalette x 1 @ $25.07
2016 Barde Haut x 1 @ $42.49

Jim,

I would strongly advise to use the rest of your gift cards loading up on the 2016 Calon Segur as that was the one wine that seemed cheap in the above list.

Picked up cases of the 2018 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie and Cuvee Tardive as well as 2007 Lopez de Heredia Bosconia Reserva and am currently trying to trade some limited edition bourbons to secure me a case of the 2016 Brane Cantenac.

I have three bottles of Calon Segur in my cellar, that's going to be the extent of it.
I was able to use $450 in gift cards to pay for these wines, I'm happy to have 7 of the Brane Cantenac at $76.07 reduced further by gift cards, I've been eyeing that wine.

I hear you and was agreeing with your love for BC as that is a wine I am looking to add as well but what I was also getting at is that the replacement costs on the Calon Segur will be considerably higher than the price you paid.

Received an email informing me that Astor Wine is running a 1 day 25% off all still white wines by the case sale so I took a look and spotted a 2017 M. Niellon Chassage-Montrachet ‘Les Champgains’ 1er Cru listed as in-stock at $99.96/btl meaning that it would come down to $75 + tax after the sales promotion, so I texted Jacques to see if this was a worthwhile proposition and we ended up splitting the case.

Picked up a case of splits of Alvear Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 for $14.92/btl which seemed like a turn back the clock kind of price from Zachys and now I’ll just need to find some vanilla ice cream on the way home

Amazing price on the PX JC!

Joel Peterson currently of Once and Future did a library release of some of his old Ravenswoods this AM. I picked up:
1994 Monte Rosso Zin x 2
1994 Old Hill Zin x 2
1994 Cooke Zin x 2

I cut my teeth on these wines. Will be very interesting to see how aged versions compare to my memory of them in their youth.

Lost control again. My downfall is always these random big lots of wine that have low per bottle prices but the total charge is a lot. This time, a case of 1998 Bourgneuf for $450 all in. A lot more Bourgneuf than I ever though I’d have but couldn’t resist less than $40/bottle for perfectly mature 1998 Pomerol, even from a minor producer

You won’t go wrong, good score. Some Pomerol producers are strangely unfashionable which means you can get bargains in Pomerol if you dig deep enough.

Prearrival on the 2018 is $65. You made a great buy unless the case of '98 was stored in a garage in Texas.
