I might be if I’d ever tried an SM CJG, but I’ve never had it ever. I can get the 09 of this for $55, is that a buy? What’s the scoop with this cuvee?

Wow, Patrick! I paid $75 for the 04 7 Springs when Mark had his Library offering and considered that a reasonable price.

I’m celebrating with a bottle of the 07 St Innocent Shea. Showing so well, there’s a gorgeous core of dark cherry fruit here. Hard to resist the next sip.

Yes indeed. I paid $10 more per bottle.

SM CJG, to generalize, is a more powerful, more Cab-based cuvee of the same wine, coming from the best block of vines. Tends to be more polished but not modern in any sense of the word. It’s excellent, but I cannot say better than the base cuvee, just a bit different. I buy both.

Patrick, I did not much like the 2007s when they were young. They did get better with age but I did not keep mine around long enough. I really disliked the 2011s young, but now they are turning into fine wines. I have hopes the the 2013s will blossom. I bought a lot of them on stefanJr's recommendation, but they went thin and acidic very soon after bottling. These three vintages are atypical for Oregon.

Tonight, after seeing Bob Dylan perform in Ames, IA, Lucie and I are sipping on 2012 SI Shea. Now THAT is one fine wine even at age 7.

Oh, this is the "what did you buy" thread. The only thing I bought recently is

4 1995 Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle @ $97 all in.

Lucie and most of the audience loved the concert. Dylan's voice was fine and got stronger toward the end. Probably he held back early for fear of losing it late in the show otherwise. His arrangements of old songs were completely different from the originals; so much so that even Lucie did not realize he was singing something she knew until the number was half over. On some songs the backup was too loud to hear the vocals and I could not understand any of the Nobel Laureate's recitation of his poetry.

Thanks for the review. We considered getting tickets to see him in NYC but suspect acoustics there would make it even more difficult.

Huge, huge Dylan fan. He's my desert-island musician.

But I've seen him in concert 3 times (all in the 90's) and each show was a big letdown, two of them were downright bad (short, mumbly, low-energy).

Last week I bought a case of 2015 Ch. Marsac Seguineau @ 26.99 per bottle.
This is a traditional style Cru Bourgeois Margaux which my favorite local wine store carries.
I've been buying since the 2009 vintage.

Nice score. It's a good masculine wine, although mine are gone now. I've always liked this estate more than critics do.

We had a surprisingly good 2005 last year too.

I have never quite understood the relationship between this and Bourgneuf Vayron, which seems to be in the same stable as Le Prieur, Siaurauc et al. All fairly similar labels too. All of that cluster I can pass on.

Upvote. The 2003 (of all vintages) was excellent and seemingly very typical despite the vintage conditions.

Ordered from Central WIne Merchants on Sunday, received yesterday:
6x 2016 Ch. Lilian Ladouys @ $26.81 (incl. shipping)
5x 2016 La Dame de Montrose @ $42.81 (incl. shipping)
1x 2015 Ch. Prieure Lichine @ $52.81 (incl. shipping) - I already have some in the cellar. This one is to be opened soon.

Picked up yesterday at Total Wine:
1x 2014 Echo de Lynch Bages @ $40.48 - to be opened this week so I can decide if I want to go back for more at that price.
2x 2014 Les Pagodes de Cos @ $40.48
1x 2016 Ch. Guibon Blanc @ $14.38
2x 2016 Ch. Pierre de Montignac @ $17.98

Tasted the 2015 Prieure Lichine at the recent Zachys tasting I attended with Dave. It seemed really charming and like it was drinking well now.

I like that its still available for $50 a bottle. Many other '15s I bought at favorable prices on release went up in price when the second tranche was released.

Well, the Echo was good enough that I went back yesterday and took their last 3 bottles off the shelf, along with a '14 La Croix D-B, '14 La Dame de Montrose, and '16 Capbern. All slated for near term drinking.

Two of the inexpensive 2016 wines I bought on Tuesday had gone up in price during the week, exactly 25%. However I think there was plenty of stock on the shelf Tuesday. That means they are applying the Tariff increase to some of the wines that were already here before it took effect. On the other hand, both wines are fairly well regarded in their price range so the price adjustment isn't all that surprising.

2014 Sociando Mallet x 8 @ $40
2008 Roederer Cristal x 2 @ $239

The Sociando should be drinkable young and old and a reasonable QPR.

I'm not usually blown away enough by Cristal to pony up for it but a bottle at a wine dinner in DC last week was fabulous. Is it 2+ times as good as other vintage Champers? No, but it's my splurge for the holidays.

Funny you guys should mention I bought 2 x 6 packs of 2008 Cristal a couple of weeks ago. I paid £950 per 6, but my hope is that, in time, I can sell one to finance the consumption of the other case. The 1996 is over £500 a bottle, and the 2008 vintage is definitely as good as the 1996 according to the Cristal cognoscenti.

Heads up, on a less grand note, my next purchase will be Produttori del Barbaresco 2016 2x6. I heard it is pretty sensational stuff, even better than the excellent 2015.

That Produttori is tempting Ian. I love the wines and they're among the best QPR in the area. I bought the 2015 with a bit of trepidation regarding when the wine will be ready vs. my longevity.

I recently saw a review on Vinous for the 2016 that was quite complimentary. I'd like to get my hands on some if I can find a decent price.
