2 bottles of Pierre Peters Cuvée de Réserve BdB
2 bottles of Geoffroy Empreinte 2012

Purchased in 2019, I just collected my 6 bottles of the 2008 Dom Perignon with their fancy boxes and inset brochure. I felt very 1% for a minute or two.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
I spend most of my day defending people who literally don't know where their next lunch is coming from.
And later that evening I may be in Manhattan sipping Dom Perignon and watching Verdi from prime orchestra seats at the Met Opera.
Life is hard.

Nice haul, Chris. I am thinking about opening a 1979 Palmer tonight with Cornish hens. That is my son-in-law's birth year and he just brought me a perfect cappuccino.

I knew there might be some Sociando coming, and maybe more La Lagune, but the Latour is totally out of the blue.
My "friend" says he received two (from the estate of a friend) but can't bring himself to drink them alone, and doesn't have a group to share one with at this point in his life.
He asked me to invite him to the dinner where I open my bottle,
and he left it to me to figure out what I owe him. :o

So it looks like I need to set up a BWE wine dinner later this year. :)

We did drink the 1979 Palmer tonight, and it was very good. The Margauxberries are in full bloom and there are nice vegetable overtones in the full fruit flavor.

How best to treat these '78s and '79s?
Is a 2 hour decant advisable? Will they hold up for a few hours or will they only last a short time?
There's a paucity of good information in the Cellartracker database on many of the wines I've acquired. For instance the Carruades only has a single tasting note, with a 70 point score.

I have the '78 La Lagune teed up for later today.

I would not decant, too scary and the wine could deteriorate quickly. Some swear by the Audouze method of slow oxygenation, I'm not a huge fan but you could try it (do a quick Google search). I usually pop and pour older wine.

Do not decant. François' slow oxygenation method is good, but I usually just pop and pour wines that are only forty years old and seem to have had excellent storage.

I definitely would not decant.
Those 1978 Lynches I bought pretty much have displayed about a 90 minute window.

I did decant the '78 Palmer I opened on Christmas Day, a couple hours before dinner. The nose was awesome from the beginning. The palate improved over a period of time and suffered no deterioration thru the end of the bottle.

A smattering of 2016 Chasse Spleen in 375. Wish I could trade 75% of my daily drinker Bdx for 375 format!

LOL, I hope not. Leve’s note surely didn’t read that way at all.

My last vintage purchase of Chasse Spleen was 2000. I got all excited to see the 375s, they are so cute.

Well, let us know. I have some 09 Chasse (and 09 Poujeaux), but I have been afraid to open one.

I know what you mean about half bottles. Back when I used to buy futures, I often would get half bottles. They are such a civilized format, especially for work nights. I have over 100 half bottles of 05 Bordeaux (constituting the bulk of my halves), but they aren’t anywhere near ready even in that format alas.

My local wine shop has 2015 Chasse Spleen but I haven't bought any. I spent almost all my 2015 money on the Margaux appellation.

Single bottles of 1996 and 1997 Rieussec for a total of $108.15.

So far it has been a slow buying year for me. I do not feel much pressure to buy as I now have around 120 bottles in Oregon and we will not return there until May.

I’m seeing several 2015 St Innocent pinot noir (Momtazi, Zenith and Temperance) for $31. Tempting! Dang buying moratorium.

So the fruits of my December pre-moratorium buying binge are rolling in and reminding me of some purchases made then which I had forgotten about. Particularly pleased to see that, inspired by the 1989 Huet 1ere Trie Le Mont that Dave brought to our last wine dinner, I purchased a half a case of 2009 Huet 1ere Trie Clos du Bourg for $65 a bottle. Dave's 1989 made me realize that I actually preferred the Huet to much of the Yquem I have tasted because of the crazy great combination of intensity and lightness of touch, so $65 a bottle seems like a bargain.

I picked the 2009 Clos du Bourg over the other years, and over the 2009 Le Mont, because it has some of the best Cellartracker reviews I've ever seen -- almost every one of the 39 reviews were raves, with the only non-raves being in the nature of "will be excellent but too young". However, given how fresh and young Dave's 1989 tasted I wonder how long I will need to wait on this one. At least I have a solid decade of pre-aging in though. Love backfilling.

P.S. the 2009 Bourg is sold out but the 2009 Huet 1ere Trie Le Mont is still available at Union Square Wines (where I bought the Bourg) at $65 a bottle.

Glad you liked the Huet Marcus. Loire moelleux have a different flavor profile than Sauternes. I love them both.

Huet wines are just a pure pleasure to drink....I always get a bottle of Le Mont when i see it in stock.
Marcs...not sure if you ever shopped at Chambers Street wines, they used to carry a nice selection of Loire wines

No, haven't had the pleasure...Union Square Wines, also in NYC, ships and has a pretty decent selection of Huet right now, including some back vintages at fairly reasonable prices if you're interested. Now that I'm on moratorium I have no hesitation in passing my tips on to others!
