From the few I tasted, I'd say good. Not as focused, long and minerally as 2017 or 2014, not as balanced, soft and seductive as 2016 but much better than 2015.

Good producers will be excellent, so pick those in Chassagne, Meursault and Puligny
Chablis will be great across

Drink before 2017s and 2014s
Best

Drinking more dry white wine lately, i picked up some curiosities:

2018 Chile Sauvignon Gris from Casa Silva
2018 Masselina (an italian white made from a grape I never heard about, albana grape)

I'll be looking for some vins de Bourgogne soon, as me inventory is quite low.

Thanks Jacques. I've been buying a few Jacques Carillon Pulignys and Bouchard Meursault Perrieres. Sounds like the 2018s are worth a go.

I learned earlier this week that my local liquor store had been sold. The Portuguese immigrant owners of the last 35 years retired.
So tonight on the way home from work I stopped in to grab the last 3 bottles of 2011 Larose Trintaudon off the shelf. The new (middle-eastern) owners had wasted no time making changes and I had a little work finding what I wanted. Gone were the wooden display racks that highlighted the better wines. But at least they were interested in my purchase.
At the register they wrote down what I took. I let them know there was probably no 2011 left from the distributor, and that Bordeaux vintages mattered. I was also told that they will be expanding their offerings and lowering prices.
I don't have much expectation of finding a better selection of Bordeaux wines since this is a semi-rural area, but we'll see. At least they know it's what one of their customers wants.

Well done RC, carrying the torch.
I uncorked a ‘15 Larose Trintaudon tonight, not a flaw that I can see, this is a fine little midweek Bordeaux with the salmon from the Portland Harbor Market.

For Lucie to drink in her '90s:

15 2016 La Lagune @ $49
5 2015 Pichon-Lalande @ $150
3 2015 Giscours @ $69

My spring resolution was to spend everything we saved on not going to Bordeaux on wines from Bordeaux, but I think that I will fall far short. Probably the best I will do is get rid of the negative balance on the credit card I used for some of the prepaid expenses.

I bought every bottle of La Lagune they had. The others wines were to fill out the second case. Lucie demanded that I buy all the 2016 La Lagune rather than just a case.

I had a good day at auction today even though demand was much stronger than I expected - I think a lot of non UK bidders came in given the weakness of the pound. There were people bidding from Hong Kong for example. Just as well, otherwise it would have been carnage. All prices GBP:

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 88 (Clos De La Coulee Serrant 2003 Nicolas Joly 5 bts) for 200! That was my priority target, one of the few monopoles

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 153 (Chateau Latour Haut Brion 2005 1 bt) for 90! The last ever vintage of LTHB so a good souvenir - and HB and LTHB were allegedly sensational in 2005.

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 251 (Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 Louis Jadot 6 bts OWC IN BOND) for 450! That was not on my hit list but the estimate was £600-700

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 252 (Fine Red Burgundy Including Rapet, Bachelet And Vauisoey 12 bts) for 320!

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 287 (Pommard Les Rugiens 2010 Domaine Drouhin 2 bts) for 95!

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 302 (Cote Rotie La Peroline 2005 Levet 11 bts) for 380! This was one of many lots sold by a celebrity journalist which means it is more likely for other reasons than this being a lemon (Ref: George Akerlof, the market for lemons).

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 306 (Fine Northern Rhone Inc Cornas, Hermitage, Cote Rotie 12 bts) for 380! Included Voges, Clusel Roch, Chapoutier, Guigal, Jaboulet, Bernard Guy, Delas, Faurie.

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 317 (Chateauneuf Du Pape 2005 Cuvee Des Felix Domaine Bois De Boursan 12 bts OCC) for 300! Been on the look out for this my favourite reasonably priced Chateauneuf

Congratulations! You have just bought lot 397 (BBR Old Block Chenin 2016 12 bts) for 140! An every day drinker and am a big fan of SA Chenin

I bought a few vins de Bourgogne also. All reds :

2015 Bouchard Pére et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Beaune du Chateau.
2015 Chantal Lescure Pommard 1er Cru Les Bertins.
2017 Domaine des Perdrix NSG 1er Cru Aux Perdrix (i read that this 1er Cru would be strong enough to look Richebourg in the eyes).

Yes stefan and Patrick the prices were pretty keen, these auctions happen every two months and this one had a great selection. There were over 30 lots in my sights and fortunately there were enough people bidding to prevent a train wreck for my personal finances.

Here are the auction results:

These were the mixed lots of burgundy and Rhone respectively:

Lot 252

Corton Pougets Grand Cru 1999 Domaine Rapet 4 bts Volnay Clos Des Chenes 2010 Domaine Christoph Vaudisoey 3 bts Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2001 Domaine Jean Chauvenet 1 bt Gevrey Chambertin 2008 Bouchard Pere Et Fils 1 bt Volnay Cuvee Blondeau 2011 1 bt Volnay 1er Cru Les Angles 2005 Louis Boillot 1 bt Gevrey Chambertin Vielles Vignes 2006 Domaine Bachelet 1 bt Above 12 bts. From the South East London Victorian underground cellar of a well known UK newspaper journalist.

Lot 306

I have a 1961 VCC on hold for the VCC vertical, as we go through due diligence.

Interesting process, the level is just below the neck, which is unusual, but the real question is concerning the circumflex over the word chateau, which seems a little darker than usual. The cork is marked, and it was purchased as part of an open case at auction around ten years ago. My instinct is that it is correct, but we sent pictures to the chateau just to make sure.

Musigny 151 you are a VCC freak, right? Should I be drinking my 2001 VCC or no? It is my oldest vintage but I have just two bottles (and only 7 bottles of VCC from any vintage) so I don't want to waste one. Never had a VCC so am curious to try.

2001 is delicious and in early maturity. Unusually for VCC , it has a slight herbaceous note, which for me adds to its allure.

I would respectfully disagree with that assessment based on my recent encounter, though my case had been residing in Octavian in Wiltshire, a former limestone mine 100 feet underground.

Interesting; last tasted in October of last year, as part of a three wine flight. Certainly not fully mature, but nothing came across as dumb or surly. Finished as the favorite of the group over Corbin and Figeac.

Some 2018 Verona Sauvignon blanc and Errazuriz Aconcagua coast sauvignon blanc
2016 Courbis Cornas Champelrose
2016 Chateau Pesquié Artemis

Need more dry white wines, as MC and Simone always want to eat salmon tartare.

Hi Dandersson.

Not a lot of dry white Bordeaux available here, but i like the inexpensive easy aerial stuff like Entre-Deux-Mers, Graves and sometime Blaye.

For Courbis Cornas, i had some a few time in the past and liked the. I think Cornas is still very affordable for the quality, and i guess this will change in the coming 5 years, so time to buy. Côte Rôtie prices went up lately, i think it is a good indicator.

Nic, why not a nice dry Rosé, especially in the summertime? Goes great with salmon.

I don’t have a specific suggestion but I’m sure others will.

Those are excellent prices! Do they include the auction house fee / are they all-in prices? E.g. the low retail price for the 2015 Jadot Echezeaux is $220/bottle in the U.S. right now, implying an all-in price of like 1100 pounds for a half a case, you paid like 40% of that!
