I am probably “Trotanoyed out” after this purchase LOL! From a pure drinkers value perspective it’s not necessarily as huge a win since all the extra market price here comes from the 09 vintage premium — there are excellent vintages like the 2014 and 2015 available for this price or less. Still, I really like the 2009 vintage so I’m happy

I did give back much of my paper benefit from this by sticking around the auction and overspending on some wine I actually didn’t really even want. NEVER surf a live auction from your phone. Auctions are like casinos - the house always eventually wins if they just keep you hanging around.

I have overspent so much on wine this year that I need to not just go on a moratorium but probably sell off 8-10 cases to thin out my cellar in the coming years. Keeping the Trotanoy though - happy to split a bottle with you next time you’re in DC, Nocklass

By the way, I also made Stefan proud by getting four bottles of La Lagune (2*2009 and 2*2010) for $90 all in. An overbid since I probably could have found them for $75-80 each if I had looked around. Happy to own them though!

I do not support overbidding on La Lagune, Marcus; it costs me $$$. You'll be happy with the wines, but drinking the 2010 in the near term is a waste.

I made bids on five lots in an auction that ended Saturday (a bit more than $4000 total). I lost them by $15, $20, $45, $75, and $290. Would have been worse if I had won all. The wines were to go to Oregon and stefanJr just informed me that the wine fridge I have in his house is essentially full.

Congratulations Marcus, very well done. Pomerol doesn’t get much better.

The 2009 was the star of the show in a vertical we did here in London a couple of years ago with Edouard Moueix, in a line up which included the 1998, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2016. I acquired a case for £2350ib.

I agree that the 1998 is a very great wine, which is still not ready yet, but I think the 2009 and 2016 will surpass it. The 2000 is the one to drink now and is a wonderful trad Pomerol.

So that $4K will be diverted into another wine fridge? There’s always another auction.

Not sure that stefanJr will agree to my putting a second wine fridge in his house. I might get one for our house on Lake Mercer, but the logistics of getting wine there are difficult.

Not a bad deal on that 02 LB. I really like half bottles, at my age they present a lot more manageable level of alcohol. I wish I had way more of them!

I opened one and found it to be overly tannic and young but with promise of a black fruit hidden beneath. I buried it away to try again in a year.

On Winebid one bottle each of:

1982 Château Calon-Segur
1979 Château Pichon-Longueville-Comtesse-de-Lalande
1981 Cos d'Estournel
2001 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Chambolle Musigny La Combe D'Orveaux Vieilles Vignes
2000 Nicolas Potel Volnay Les Pitures

Not cheap but I was running out of older Bordeaux and Burgundy

We think alike Marcus, also I bought a 1983 VCC recently. 150 all in. Hopefully it'll be a steal :)

You might be able to find 1998 Trotanoy at auction. It will be a little more, but well worth the difference. This is for me the finest young Trotanoy I have ever tasted, and better still a few years closer to maturity.
I picked up the 98 on closeout before I moved, so prior to 05. I tasted one a couple of years ago and it is special. I may open one for my retirement in 3 years.

18 x St Tour Bonnet 2016 (though splitting with some friends).
Managed to convince a retailer to bring some in after being seriously impressed by this QPR. Will add some to the cellar to see how it evolves, and have the others as a mid week quaffer.

1985 Ch Leovlille Barton (3)
1986 Ch Beychevelle (5) + 1 375ml
2015 Ch Corbin (24) 4 owc 6pks $29/btl all-in

Re: So what have you bought lately?

these aren't new purchases, but just asked Winebid to send me bottles purchased over the last year, to arrive first half of January:

3*2008 Pichon Baron
3*2000 Lanessan
2*2000 Grand Mayne
1*2004 Vieux Chateau Certan

All Bordeaux, baby! Going for those lower level 2000s, drinking so great right now :-)

In the non-Bordeaux space, since people are talking about Felsina -- about six month ago, after having a sensational 2010 Felsina Riserva Rancia, I was able to find a case of the 2010 Felsina Riserva Rancia for $60/bottle. Not too bad for a ready to drink wine of that quality.

This got me wondering, how much Ridge do I have? I know it's a lot -- turns out, it's much more than I realized! 122 bottles all told. I didn't realize I have a pretty good vertical of Monte Bello even.

That would be quite interesting. But I'll tell you a secret : I almost did not survive after the famous first BWE Friday night dinner in Chicago in 2001, the "Infamous Zinfandel night". That first ever BWE dinner was at the Zinfandel restaurant, drinking lot of zinfandel wines... almost did not make it to the Saturday night Bordeaux dinner!

Um, YOU nearly didn't make it?
I'm not exaggerating, I literally vomited over 20 times in my hotel room that next day, and got out of bed at about 5pm for that 6pm dinner.

I was 18 years old, 100-110 lbs, not shaped ready for too much zinfandel :D

But on Saturday night, as soon as i entered the 40th floor at the Prudential Building, completely wet as it was pouring rain outside, that 40th floor was infested with 1994 Fonseca vintage aromas, I was back on track.

When I left that Blues music bar with Whuzzup_, in the Saturday very early hours, i thought i would be buried in one of ?Chicago's graveyards.

But i couldn't imagine Saturday evening and night would be even tougher as I met that guy called "MichaelP"...

Received my bottles of 2012 Chateau Nénin.

Bought one bottle of Bollinger Spécial Cuvée for New Year Eve, and one bottle of the 2016 Jean-Luc Jamet Les Terrasses Côte Rôtie. This to compare with the 2016 Domaine Jamet Côte Rôtie (owner is Jean-Paul Jamet, Jean-Luc's brother) one day.

Nicely done as this looks to be the last licks for the 2017 as Polaner (metro NY area distributor) has already moved on to the 2018 vintage.
