I was a late entrant to the 1985 tasting, so I bought six bottles of Gruaud-Larose 1985. The first one was astonishingly good. All my other options for the dinner were taken. I am really glad I bought the six rather than a single bottle.

So as I was browsing the Norwalk CT Total Wine site today at lunch and came across the 2010 Pichon Lalande for $119.98/btl I quickly modified the order to a case order at which point there was an additional 10% discount that kicked in bringing down the cost per btl to $107.98 before tax. Now with pricing for this starting at $175, I think that this was a stellar mis-priced item find.

I bought 188 bottles of burgundy in The Cote D'Or last Tuesday and Wednesday. Mainly whites but among the producers Jean-Baptiste Ponsot, Girardin, Marc Colin, Sauzet, Michel Colin Deleger, Chartron et Trebuchet, Clotilde Davenne, Gros Frere et Soeur, Daniel Rion and Domaine Bart.

Back here in London I bought single bottles of Chateau De Pommard 1976, Chateau De Pommard 1983, Pichon Lalande 1981 and Gruaud-Larose 1986.

Wow! That's quite a haul Ian. Well done!

But with all that white Burgundy, I have to ask how long you plan on cellaring them and your thoughts on premox. I'm a white Burg lover but pretty much gave up on the stuff about 15 years ago due to premox. Are there now a group of producers who have managed to figure it out? Or is there still a risk across all producers?

Most of it will be consumed within a year David, and MEK will buy a chunk of that too. The average price was €22 a bottle so mid-range rather than high end. Most of the whites are 2013s.

Well that makes perfect sense. Young burgs can be satisfying but the aged stuff was one of my favorites. It's still frustrating to think about what I'm missing because I'm unwilling to roll the dice on expensive bottles to age 10-15 years or more.

I also still shy away from the white Burgs I love because of premox. I still buy an occasional Batard or Corton Charley and cross my fingers, but mostly I keep to 1er Crus and village wines and drink then younger than I would like. Unfortunately, in my experience there is no substitute for white Burgundy.

Yes, Patrick; that is why I bought another one. The '76 Ducru is probably not very good, but I know that the provenance is good.

Last night we had the 2008 Evening Land 7 Springs. Very good, but it was outshone by the 2012 St. Innocent Shea Special Selection. If Mark Vlossak had made the '08 7 Springs I am sure that it would have been better that what Dominique Lafon produced.

2 bottles of 2012 Clape Cornas, 1 bottle of 2011 Côteau de Tupin Stephan Côte-Rôtie, 1 bottle of 2012 Barbarine Gangloff Côte-Rôtie.

1 2000 Potel Bonnes Mares, 1 2003 Penner-Ash Shea, 6 2010 Scopone Brunello L'Olivare. More importantly, I found a bottle of 1989 Talbot that I did know that I had. Lucie & I drank it last night to welcome her return from CA. It is much better than HWSRN said in 2002. After we drank it I looked for it on line. The lowest offer is over $100, so Parker's 87 score did not cause the price to go through the floor, unfortunately.

Blanquito of CO.

I know I've accidentally outbid you once before (a bottle of the 78 Lagune), I did it from my phone and in the mobile interface I didn't see the Stefan of TX until later on my laptop. Now I am always very careful, especially with any lots of Lagune!

Well our bdays are getting close. The weather is getting cooler . So it is shipping time. I have a bunch of 2009 Cantemerle, so got a bunch of 2010 Cantemerle. Been drinking it since the 1989.
And Susan and I got to know each other over a 1996.
Also sprang for some 2013 Strub Niersteiner Paterburg Spatlese.

Very nicely done, Rob, that 2009 Cantemerle is a beauty too.
I'm gonna order another 6 bottles of the 2010 from MacArthur's, a little more expensive than PC and some of the other places, but I like their really quick service.
