My goal is to read Proust in French next summer but my French is very weak.
I have no idea what this English translation on the back of the 2010 Chasse Spleen means, Alex or somebody, can you enlighten me?
It's awesome, though, nothing slick here, this is old school, I love it!

The article explains that this Belgian author was won the prestigious Médicis literary prize for "Fuir", from which the quote is taken,
The book is called "Running Away" in English.

The full French quote is "C’était l’occasion, le moment opportun, la faveur ou la saison."
The translation is mostly OK, although the word "favour" is difficult to relate to.

There was an exhibtion of Toussaint's "visual inspirations" to write his books the Louvre in 2010, and that probably correlates to the vintage of Chasse Spleen.

Still, this is all very esoteric, and not very commercial.
I don't know why there are so many poor back labels in France...
Either the English is iffy, or the information is spotty - or something consumers cannot understand (like here).
Furthermore, the back labels are great at suggesting dishes and/or ingredients that no one can find in, let's say, American supermarkets.
So why bother to suggest them in English?

Can you believe that one of the most wealthy and powerful wine families in Bordeaux can't even put a decent translation of the back of one of their flagship wines?
I can see at least 7 or 8 errors...

Actually for a proper inspection of the back label and correct translation, you need to send the bottle and contents to me!

It continues to develop well, air only helps it.

For my tastes, I like it better than the Sociando Mallet of the same vintage, which feels more chiseled.

It's rich and full; it just screams curranty cabernet.

Just scored 2 bottles of the 89 Chasse Spleen on Winebid today.

The 2010 Sociando opened tonight was boring. This is kind scary.

2015 Chasse Spleen is old school but very good.

I popped another 2000 Chasse Spleen while I bake a slab of salmon & steam Basmati rice. This continues to show great curranty, cabernet character on a medium frame. I think people laying down recent vintages will be in for a treat, if they're patient. I have never gotten the sense that vinification/elevage etc. has changed negatively here over the years.

I was a fan of the 1990 Chasse Spleen, and was delighted to discover a few months back that I had one bottle left.
We drank it with our son and his girlfriend at the end of the summer. Thirty years old, and it was still lovely.

Is the Sociando in a dumb stage or just disappointing?

If you like C-S and want to listen to an informative podcast about the property, a recent one was released about a month ago, which I only caught up to this morning. I had not realized how cabernet heavy it had gotten over the years, which is their way of addressing global climate improvement.

Funny, as Chasse Spleen is my "under the radar" vintage tester wine. Namely, when I think the vintage is starting to drink, I will pull out a Chasse Spleen and see where it is. Usually works.
