TN: TN-5 nice wines including 3 Bordeaux

Post by Harry C. »

  • 2010 Morlet Family Vineyards Chardonnay Coup de Coeur - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/25/2014)
Yellow. Nose close to Peter Michael Cuvee Indigene-some butter, pear, cinnamon. Taste was mouthfilling, hard to pin down to exact flavors, but smooth. Went well with food. (92 pts.)
  • 2000 Château Cap de Faugères - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux (10/25/2014)
Dark garnet. Like a lot of 2000s, the nose is the show. Just pouring in the glasses filled the room. Real young Bordeaux nose, with 'asian spices', mocha and tobacco. Taste followed the nose, but youngish. Beautiful now, but can age a bit more. (91 pts.)
  • NV Soter 1977 - 2007 Proprietary Red - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/25/2014)
This wine reminds me of Dolly Parton-all up front and little on the end. Garnet/black color. Nose was all BIG, Anise, berries and chocolate. But the palate is a middle weight that disappears quickly. 94 nose, 87 taste. After some recent buzz I had to try it. Perhaps with a little age it may improve. (90 pts.)
  • 1982 Château Lynch-Bages - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (10/19/2014)
Dark garnet. Nose all that, great aged Pauillac, tobacco, cedar, that tired old phrase Asian spices. Smooth mouthfeel, fills all corners with well aged Bordeaux tastes. This is at pinnacle and aging more won't add much if at all. (95 pts.)
  • 2000 Château Brane-Cantenac - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (10/19/2014)
Garnet. This is all about the nose, dark fruits, hint of cedar. Taste is thinnish on the midpalate, points off for this. Good luncheon Claret. (90 pts.)

Great stuff Harry.
I always loved that 1982 Lynch, it is such a classic old styled claret.
I still say that 1982 was the last of the old styled Lynches in the mold of the 61, 70, 78, 79, 81, and 82.
Starting sonewhere around 83 and certainly by 85, the style changed.
And then it changed again post 96.
I love the old school Lynches, those coffee, tobacco, and leather beasts.
And I love those lead pencil, cassis, black fruit beauties of the golden era of Lynch, 1983-1996.

Interesting that the 2000 Cap de Faugeres is still going strong at the 14 year mark.
