2003 San Leonardo and 2008 Cantemerle

Post by Rudi Finkler »

2003 San Leonardo, Trentino, is a typical Bordeaux blend of Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc and Merlot. The elegant, complex fruit is impressive, but unfortunately, some green and sharp notes ruin the balance.... Not so the 2008 Cantemerle. For half the price this delicious Haut-Médoc offers everything what you would expect from a truly classic Bordeaux. All components of this old school, medium bodied wine are in great balance, including a long, lingering finish.

Trying to recall where I saw the 2008 Cantemerle recently at a good price.
Have never had it but I think I'll hunt some down!

Jim, I bought the 2008 Cantemerle at CACTUS supermarket in Luxembourg for € 23,- last week. Not bad. :-)

Hi all,
First post here after several years (on MSN).
Cantemerle can be stunning. Have a few 09's and 10's cellared, but never had the '08. Must check it out. BTW, the '89 was stunning and '02 was utter crap.

Roel, nice to see you posting here. :-)
Indeed, the legendary1989 had a magical touch. Undoubtedly the best Cantemerle I ever had. But the 2008 is not far behind...

Hi Rudi!
A few years ago I had this 02 Cantemerle. It was for 14 Eur, so it was worth a try. How can such a decent terroir / skilled team (hence 89, 08, 09, 10 etc) make utter plonk in a vintage like 02? I also had Lynch-Moussas 02, also for a song, and it wasn't any better.
