2009 Esprit de Chevalier

Post by Nicklasss »

After a few weeks without opening a red Bordeaux, tonight is the night and we will try this little puppy.

I think i never had a wine from DdC.

The puppy is now In the decanter. Nice dark red color, first nose of cocoa powder and dark berries.

I love Domaine de Chevalier, but I never tasted Esprit. I look forward to reading your note.

It is an ambitious wine, for a second wine. Noble oak to start on the nose.

But later on, even If still very young, roasted cherries, smoke, red berries, on one block. Mouth is rich, with red berries and dark cola flavors. Red plums, light coffee, light oak. Final is decent length, on red berries and dusty rocks. It will be something better In 7-8 years, but for the moment, a good Bordeaux only. But very dense. TN: 87+. 40$ up here for that bottle.

And Marie-Claude hate the moustache. Just like the kids. But I find it just too funny, and for a few weeks, i look my real age instead of 10 years younger!

I tasted this wine last year, but just was not very impressed. Still this is not a bad wine by any means.
The L'Espirit just lacked the earthy characteristics that I seek in a bordeaux and it did not display much complexity. Though the wine was well polished and a fairly smooth quaff. I just expected more of that Pessac character but this failed to deliver.

Don't know about your neck of the woods, but this wine is really inexpensive here.

Very good value for money, and it drinks well young.

What's not to like?

Exists in both red and white.
