2007 Haut-Marbuzet
This is undoubtedly one of the most unobtrusive, extremely elegant wines I have drunk in recent times. Quite the contrary to all the effect-hashing blockbuster kitsch wines we have to endure these days. Balm for the soul, oasis for lovers of traditional Bordeaux. In the same league as the wonderful 2007 Domaine de Chevalier for example...

And I bet it doesn't cost an arm and a leg...
Re: 2007 Haut-Marbuzet
Ahhh.... Haut-Marbuzet. j'Adore. Still have a 1990 cellared. A traditional property, but in a good way. 2007... No balsamico tones towards the finish?
Re: 2007 Haut-Marbuzet
I never had Haut-Marbuzet, but i know i need to try it sooner than later.
Seem to be/have a réputation like Sociando : an underdog, that deceive rarely.

Re: 2007 Haut-Marbuzet
Since the late eighties, Château Haut-Marbuzet as well as the neighbouring Château Marbuzet -in earlier days Château de Marbuzet- are among my favorite wines from St.-Estèphe.
Nic, the extremely elegant, nevertheless flamboyant style of Haut-Marbuzet is unique in Bordeaux... fortunately, prices remain reasonable, € 30-60 in our region.
Roel, I have just opened another bottle of this nectar, and indeed, certain balsamico tones exist towards the finish...

Balsamico = 2007 imho. Makes me not Always like the vintage in general. More or less depending on 'tha mood'.
Re: 2007 Haut-Marbuzet
It's funny, I do not associate words like "elegant" and "traditional" with Haut Marbuzet.
Don't get me wrong: I like the wine. But he is still (in Bordeaux terms) viewed as a new kid on the block. And the style stands out significantly from other Saint-Estèphes, due partly to ageing in 100% new oak.
I have been to a couple of tastings where people wondered if it wasn't a "joker", possibly a wine from the New World.
In any event, you make me want to try a bottle soon.
Best regards,
Alex R.

That's a good idea, Alex.
