2004 R Lopez Heredia Vina Gravonia

Post by Nicklasss »

A white Rioja wine, made from 100 % Viura grape. A traditionnal character. Light gold + onion Peel color. Nose is nice but delicate, with aromas of white flowers, nougat, almond, vanillin, lemon peel. A nice nose. Mouth is etheral, with oak, fresh greenish hazelnut, mineral flavors, with niçe acidity, slightly oxydated almond peel finish. Missing a bit of fruit, but a style that is kinda rare. TN: 89.

'tomorrow, my brother is coming off dinner, and we should open something nice :D

Happy Christmas time to BWEers.

This houses white wines are divisive... I, personally, prefer a fresher style, but Lopez Heredia white wines have many staunch defenders.

The cellars in Haro have to be seen to be believed. A New World winemaker would have cardiac arrest: cobwebs everywhere, barrels used for décades, etc.

All the best,

The cellars or the winemaking areas, Alex? A lot of houses have ancient cellars filled with mold, etc. where the old stuff is resting.

David,

The whole operation is like a museum.
It was only after visiting that I learned with what veneration the firm is regarded by many.
Certainly, the red wines are entirely to my taste, and can age for décades.

Several of the finest houses in Rioja are on the outskirts of Haro.
Great place to go to. And the prices are such a relief after Bordeaux...
