2012 Jean-Paul Daumen Côtes du Rhône

Post by Nicklasss »

JP Daumen is the winemaker behind Vieille Julienne in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. He likes natural wines limit any use of chemical, sulfite and other non natural things.

That Côtes du Rhône is made from grape he's buying from eco grape growers, doing light extraction, less intervention, no filtering, and bottle it. Mix of cement and big oak foudre maturation.

The result is nice. Medium slightly unclear red, with very nice fruit on the nose, like rasberries, cherries, dark berries, light sage and light soil. In mouth, very good présence, dark cherries and dark berries flavors, medium tannins, clean, light warm alcohol, and more fruit. A very great basic Côtes du Rhône. TN: 88.

I also really liked his Vin de Principauté d'Orange.

Make me want to try also his Lirac, Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, made the same way.
