The very nice 2001 Tertre Roteboeuf

Post by Nicklasss »

Opened that wine tonight, and it is quite exquisite. Superbly integrated oak, ripe fruit, and that very nice "burgundian" style. Medium color, light brown rim. Nose is superb, chocolate, vanilla, flowers, ripe dark red berries, light plum. Very nice mouth, good structure, rich but stay full of elegance. Chunky dark berries, minerals, plums, and rasberry flavors. Medium to low acidity, very creamy, and excellent. I wish i had more in the cellar, to drink in the next 3-4 years. TN: 92-93.

A small leftover tonight is always as good, with more spices, smoke, wet earth, and merlot berries.

Yum.

That 2001 Cos I had a couple weeks ago was a beauty, is the 2001 vintage underrated?

I would say it probably is under-rated. Very solid on the left bank, outstanding on the right bank and great in Sauternes.

I too enjoy this wine and 2001 generally. An under-rated vintage that offers reasonable value for money, and is drinking well now

Keith - nice to see you on BWE - Ian

All - Keith is a big presence on the London wine scene and is a big Bordeaux, Burg and Rhone fan, and heads down to Cape Town to escape the drudgery of winter in the UK.

Lovely wine Nic, a bit burgundian as you say. Haven't tasted it in a few years, will have to pull mine from storage and give it a go. Sounds like it's drinking beautifully now. I'm a big fan of TR in general, have a decent number of vintages socked away. It's gotten expensive, but the lack of sky-high Parker scores (except for '00 and '05) has at least kept something of a ceiling on prices. Neil Martin is more of a fan across vintages so that may change, though Neil's scores likely won't influence pricing as much.
