2012 Selbach-Oster

Post by Nicklasss »

Those very long German wine name.

So tonight, I opened the 2012 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnehuhr Riesling Spätlese dry, to go with lemon chicken. Like many here, I like Riesling, and the German age great with that grape. This wine is light gold. Nose is typical, with some yellow and green lemons, minerals, oil, some starfruit and white peaches. In mouth, even if it is dry, it is rich and even a bit of sugar. Great character, soil and oil, back up by lemongrass, some bitterness, good length, very good balance. Medium long final, on green melon and oil. TN: 88-89. Still very young, and I think that wine have a nice future.

I like these German wines, but they have gotten more costly, and unfortunately no one else in the family/clan cares for them. At least if they are opened and stay in the fridge, they will keep well. At this point I have under a dozen Germans, which by the end of summer might be down to zero, since we drink most of them on the veranda, with light salads.

2012 is a solid Trocken vintage.
