TN: 1988 Figeac

Post by Roel »

Château Figeac St. Emilion 1er GCC-B 1988: Some serious stuff here. Figeac is for the real connaisseur, I guess. This bottle, in this particular company, was outclassed. A compact wine with tones of cedar, blood, wood, cinnamon, forest floor, pine and with some drying tannins. Hardly any fruit left in this pleasant old and fading lady. Not bad, just not great. 86 points

Well done Roel you really are on a roll!

Did you taste these wines separately? I am guessing from this post no.

I had a much better experience with 1988 Figeac - having said that a lot of the 1988s are fading across the board...and we are into 'good bottles' as opposed to ,good vintages' mode aged 27.

Hi Comte, the Figeac was tasted next to the Cheval Blanc and Virginie de Valendraud 2009 (have to post a TN :) ). Sound provenance, bad company? And yes, it has been 27 years...
