TN: 2009 Virginie de Valandraud

Post by Roel »

Virginie de Valandraud St. Emilion GC 2009: And so the vintage wins over heritage. This 2nd wine of Valandraud, born in the glorious 2009, blew away the two expensive wines (Figeac 1988 and Cheval Blanc 1994) it shared its flight with. 3-4 tenners paid and we agreed... This was my WOTN. Excellent purity and length. Cherry, tobacco, black fruit, soft oak, cream, licorice, lush and not slutty. Soft, ripe tannins and a very good length. Not even 6 years young and already so pleasing, tempting and attractive. Well done! 93 points

The 1998 Virginie was a tasty wine in about 2004.

I've never had Chateau Valandraud or what I'm assuming is its second wine.
PJs has had the 1999 Valandraud in stock at $173 for several years now, I've been wondering if this is a buy or no buy.

I've never seen either at a tasting. Thanks for the note.
