TN: 1994 Léoville Las Cases

Post by Roel »

Château Léoville Las Cases St. Julien 2eme GCC 1994: Bought in 2004 for 40 €, prices long gone. This one really needed its air. The wine opened up during the evening. Lovely nose with thyme, cherry, tomato leaf, cedar, ink, cinnamon and mint. On the palate full of crisp fruit. 'Cool wine' for sure. Tasted much younger than its age. So red fruit, minerals, cedar, pepper, alive-and-kicking tannins and a very long finish. Not an easy wine to love, but when you work for it, its revenue is incredible. Keeps you returning to the glass. 92 points

Good job.

1994 was a vintage that separated the men from the boys.

Leoville-Lascases was one of the men.

Yes it was. Still have a bottle left. Will try it in 2020 or so... ;) Don't expect decline at all.

I uncorked my 3L bottle of this at my parents' 50th anniversary ten years ago.
I had bought it from Claret in NYC around 2003.
I thought it really shined that night, ten years ago.

Glad you enjoyed it Jim. I still have 2 750's from this yet untasted vintage.
