tasting - sacramento - spingtime - details tbd

Post by AKR »

I'm thinking of pulling together a tasting this spring, in the greater Sacramento area.

Most likely would be on a Saturday, at my place. Couples friendly.

Details (wine theme, food, dates) to be worked out once we get some (or any!) critical mass.

If you're interested, just chime in.

Depending on the date, Nalan and I are interested.

Basaed on what people have been getting back to me with availability, it's looking like late May. I will check my own calendar, confirm with the veto authority, and put something up.

Please chime in if interested, and you've not already nibbled :)

00 Le Moulin (pomerol)
00 La Tour Haut Brion
82 Ducru Beaucaillou
00 Branaire Ducru
89 Rausan Segla
70 LLC
01 Suduiraut

Arv and Jenn put on an amazing spread, with 5 wine glasses and a water glass each, multiple courses (my favorite was the goat ribs), lots of fancy cheeses and home made cheesecake from Linda.

My WOTN was the Moulin, which started out a bit of a flabby fruit bomb (I initially suggested it needed 10 years) but it slowly picked up lots of definition over the evening and good complexity.

And Arv seems to know a lot about everything, wine or otherwise, which makes for interesting and entertaining discussions. A great evening! Thanks Arv and Jenn!

What a great night. I grabbed the wrong bottle and the Rausan Segla was the 1988.

My favorites were 1970 LLC, 1982 Ducru and 2001 Suduiraut.

Time to stir the pot. I find the 2000's in general to be fruit bombs even at age 15. Am I an outlier?

Much the same was being said about 1982's at that age, right AlexR? I'm still in the "2000 is a great vintage" camp, since I don't think fruit is a flaw in a wine.

I just opened a bottle of 2000 Moulin St. Georges St. Emilion last night. Even though this is not a "high end" producer, I found it had a very solid structure with good balance - not at all out of balance with fruit. I have not dug very deep into my 2000 Bordeaux, but nothing I have had seems overly fruit oriented.

Though my experience is limited (as in saving them), my experience with the 2000 vintage has been very positive thus far.
