An inviting nose of blackberry, cherry, herbs and tobacco lead way to a red berried and licorice driven flavor profile along with drying tannins on the silky smooth finish. Modern in style for sure, but delicious to the last drop! 94 points

A good chateau to pour for those who are certain that they do not like French wine.

Monbo gets a bad rap, at least with what I've tried (98, 99, 00, 01, 05).

Modern, yes. Garish, no. Appeals to most everyone, often not bad pricing if you hunt around

agreed, but haven't tried the 05. I've seen it around locally for what looks like a cheap price.

but skeptical of the storage.

With all the WOTY talk of Monbousquet being everybodies favorite slut, I decided to pop a 2005 to go with some prime rib steaks on the grill this evening. Experience hasn’t really changed all that much and still more Napa than Saint Emilion.

I like a ripe fruity Napa Cab now and then, and Monbousquet gets the job done for less cost than similar quality wines from Napa. Which is also why, as Arv says, it’s a great wine for those who are certain that French wine is not for them. That said, I don’t think I’ve had any in the cellar for a few years now.

The 1999 Monbousquet we dubbed as the "Kathleen Turner in Body Heat" of Bordeaux wines.
