Post by Jeff Leve »

If you're interested in 2014 Bordeaux, I managed to taste more than my fair share of the wines. Each link brings to a page that includes a vintage and harvest summary for the appellation, tasting notes for all the top wines , blends and images. Plus you can also find prices for the wines that have been released.

If you have any questions please post.

Ok, I must admit, I'm curious: who's the lady in the picture?

Love the detailed reports. Well done as usual. It will take some time to read through them. But only 400?

Thanks you the notes Jeff. You got them out two days before Neal Martin. Judging by your notes - and your scores - no big standouts or surprises? Ausone wine of the vintage by a short nose over Latour would you say? Neal published a few photos of himself in the Ausone tasting room. Let's see if he agrees with you.

Tim... My future ex!

David.... Actually, Once I add the last article, which is on the Cotes de Bordeaux and other petit chateaux, it will be closer to 425/450... I'm not sure yet. I'm going to work on it today.

Ian... Thanks for the nice words. Standouts for me, are mostly in Pauillac & St. Estephe. Yes, to Ausone and Latour. But that can change to some extent as the fills age in barrel.

AKR... Because you asked, does this work? Image

That's awesome. My (old) dog never cared much for merlot, preferring beer and occasionally slurping up the odd screwdriver left at low altitudes.

The new puppy likes the sweaty aromas of slippers, and the forbidden delights of drinking from the "big porcelain waterbowl".

Jeff, nice pictures by the way.

In your notes a consistent theme is that the 2014s are good but well short of the recent great vintages - 2005/09/10 etc. When you take the proverbial 40,000 feet view how would generalise about this vintage? You make it clear you like the more northerly left bank communes of Pauillac and St-Estephe but is this more of a left bank or a right bank vintage? Will these wines be accessible early or are these wines to lay down for many years? And how does it compare to non trophy vintages like 2001/2/4/6/8/11/12, and which vintage does it most closely resemble if any? Or is there a more appropriate earlier vintage template like 1978? Many questions I know, but would be interested in your impressions with the usual caveats.

Thanks Ian

Thanks Jeff, very interesting. So, If prices are ok, 2014 is wines we need In our cellar, even If only good vintage.

But my question: what about Bordeaux rosé In 2014? Did you taste any? With the summer time coming, rosé consumption will go up...

[quote="Comte Flaneur"]Jeff, nice pictures by the way.

Honestly, while I have no problem making generalizations, there is enough of that in the intros of each article to explain that.

You make it clear you like the more northerly left bank communes of Pauillac and St-Estephe but is this more of a left bank or a right bank vintage?

Left Bank

Will these wines be accessible early or are these wines to lay down for many years?

I see them as reasonably early drinkers, if you like wines young, that can age. Early drinking drinking does not mean mature. It means they are fun, youthful wine drinking experiences.

And how does it compare to non trophy vintages like 2001/2/4/6/8/11/12, and which vintage does it most closely resemble if any?

Better than 01, 02, 04 & 08 in the Left Bank. The Right Bank... Maybe about as good as 04. These are generalizations about the quality and not the style.

Sorry Nic. But I never see them, drink them or bother with them. I have no idea which wines are even imported.

As I guessed, I think I'm closer to 430 wines all in. I added the last report today. The petits chateau and value wines.

Hi Jeff,

Like your TNs ratings more than Neal Martin's published today but it's his first major primeur coverage, so it can only be better

Even if I don't agree with you on several wines, I do agree for a vast part of the other wines.

I only managed to taste 294 wines thanks to bad samples at Grand Cercle tasting :x
