UGC 2009 (for 2006 vintage)

Post by nomadfromcincy »

Did anyone attend the tasting in San Francisco or Los Angeles? I attended this past Friday in San Francisco... not sure if I will get a chance to type up my specific notes, but here are some general thoughts:
It seems like a year where pick date and selection were very important. I caught some VA in a few wines (why do wineries pour these bottles???), but the biggest issue was greenish tannins. I found inconsistency in Pauillac and Margaux, great typicity in Saint Estephe, strong wines from Saint Julien, and really nice white wines from Pessac Leognan. Margaux had some very ripe/rich wines but also some austere boring wines. I found some really poor wines among the St. Emilion wines but also some wonderful efforts. My lack of memory is preventing me from generalizing about Pomerol. The Sauternes were nice but nothing mind-bending... I think Climens stood out.

I'll try to get to my notes for specific wines. Again, everything tasted was 2006.
