That's true that the young red Bordeaux we had at the Chateaux, were drinking ok. Don't know how many decant them ahead, and for how long.
The 2010 Château La Lagune, 2010 Duluc and 2010 Château Pichon Longueville Baron were all drinking nicely. But at the same time, keep them for 15 years is surely not a crime...and they should be better then.

Also, some great vintages seem to be drinking well all their life, they are exceptions. Normally, there is an ankward phase somewhere.
But young red Bordeaux have some charms, but at âge 15-20, more complexity and more charms, a bit like my relationship with MC.

Nose is with some spicy wood. Red berries. Swirling brings out the blackberries, blackcurrants, and something lean and mineral...

In mouth, this is structured, with nice blackfruits, tar, lead pencil flavors. Austere oak taste, tannins, final is in one block, with tar and dark prunes. Long kinda smoke finish. Nice but lot of promises for the future... Tn: 90-91+.

Are you starting to see a "character" or "personality" that defines the 2010 Medoc vintage Nic?

Ha! I swear, I was going to guess d'Armailhac.
Re: A 2010 Pauillac tonight
I believe you Jim. You know me as much as I know you!
This wine, is improving right now, after being opened for 2.5 Hours. Stronger nose, all in black. Mouth with a little roasted something. The acids and tannins are nicely balanced. One third of the bottle left, MC and me will have one more glass, in 30-45 min.
I think I already said that, but those 2010 remind me 1996, but more concentration and just a little bit more ripeness.
Father day weekend, maybe I'll open another Bordeaux tomorrow or Sunday.

Re: A 2010 Pauillac tonight
As much as I wanted to like it, the 1996 Lynch was flat and unexciting tonight.
I much preferred it at about age 7-8.

Generous spicy roasted oak now. Light coffee in mouth. Still lot of blackfruit.

Jim,
That description sums up how I felt about the 96 we shared in your room for lunch Wed. A little something lacking and disappointing. The 98 la Chappelle was showing a little better.

I find all 2010's share some sort of ripe crunchyness. I love this vintage.

"Ripe crunchyness."
Perfect description of 2010.

Re: A 2010 Pauillac tonight
I agree. Some of the lesser non-classed 2010s that make for very nice short-term drinking show that crisp structure and crunchy fruit. Particularly liking some of the low cost Graves/Pessacs.
