2004 Clerc Milon: 10-15 years of aging about right?

Post by JimHow »

The 2004 Clerc Milon is in such a great place. It has now gone through its adolescent period. At age 11, it is drinking beautifully. I last had this back around 2007, when it first hit the shelves. I loved it then, and bought a case. I'm glad I did. It has a cool, vibrant purple/ruby color. It is fresh and crispy, with some evolution, but at this point this will be a wine to uncork one bottle per year over each of the remaining 11 years for this case. It is a stoic Pauillac, cool, stern, perhaps not totally ripened but I don't mean that necessarily in a negative way. 13%. Give me this over the big fruit bombs, I say, but then again, when is Clerc Milon ever a big fruit bomb? This just seems like yet another wine that should not be wasted by waiting to drink it when it is over the hill. Very enticing now, very Pauillac, very Bordeaux. Yet another Jim How kind of wine. Rating: 92 points.

Another wine I liked in the past. I think my brother has some left.

I popped my first of 4 bottles earlier this year and found it very approachable. My notes say I paid only $26/bottle and given that I should have bought a case

Sounds like a good idea, two underrated, BWE-like vintages.
