What about 2012

Post by Nicklasss »

My 2012 bought 2 years ago will be delivered soon. I did not buy lot if 2012, but plan to buy more, as all the 2012 tasted in Bordeaux were showing characters I like: good fruit, classic, good acids, medium aging potential.

What do you think of 2012?

I've ordered some 2012 right bankers and a half dozen bottles of du Tertre.

In 2012 I bought cases of Cos, Ducru, Pontet Canet, and 8 bottles of Las Cases. I bought more 2012 from St. Innocent than from all of Bordeaux!

Out of curiosity, I tried the 2012 generic Kirkland Medoc from that distinguished wine purveyor, Costco. I wasn't too impressed even at $10. i also tried their Kirkland 2013 CDR Villages at $7 which wasn't bad certainly at that price. Somewhat rough around the edged but plenty of tannnic Rhone fruit flavor. It might improve and probably a good party wine. Last night I drank one of my last bottles of 2001 Vieux Donjon CNDP, Now that was a good wine!

1 2012 Chateau Beausejour Becot St. Emilion (April 2015 arrival) 750ml (Future)58875 $47.00 $47.00
1 2012 Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere St. Emilion (April 2015 arrival) 750ml (Future)64394 $57.00 $57.00
1 2012 Chateau Clinet Pomerol (April 2015 arrival) 750ml (Future)58877 $69.00 $69.00
1 2012 Chateau Clos Fourtet St Emilion (April 2015 arrival) 750ml (Future)58878 $70.00 $70.00

Jim, there is not a single northern Medoc on your list. Are you getting more feminine as old age approaches?

Stefan, like Tom Brady, I am metrosexual, in touch with my feminine side but celebratory of my masculinity.
If you believe He Who Shall Remain Nameless, the right bank is where it is at in 2012.
I need to get some LLC, though, and He does give Pape Clement 97 points in 2012, going for $70+ at MacArthurs right now.

Gee, and here I thought that just meant that your balls were underinflated. <ba-DUM-bum> :D

To Nic's original question, however, I will say that I didn't think a thing about 2012 until I started reading the highly complementary reports from our BWE Bordeaux contingent. It didn't take long before I had the following on order. Based pretty ice on BWE and RP recommendations. Also no Northern Medocs here. All right bank, Graves and a Margaux.

# Year Wine
6 2012 Château Clinet
2 2012 Clos Fourtet
6 2012 Château La Conseillante
2 2012 Château Larcis Ducasse
3 2012 Château Malartic-Lagravière
6 2012 Château Pape Clément
3 2012 Château Smith Haut Lafitte
3 2012 Château du Tertre
2 2012 Château Troplong Mondot

Very well done indeed, DavidG, I would add 2 bottles of LLC from MacArthur's at $139/each.

I thought hard about LLC given the outstanding impression it made on so many of you. But LLC seems to take forever to come around.

I picked up a smidge of right banks / graves / margaux in 2012, maybe under a case in total.

I passed totally on 2011. Maybe I should go take a look at the Sauternes though. Those however are unlikely to move in price so I don't see urgency/effort needed there.
