HDH has some 03 Cos Labory [St Estephe] for $35, one of their best efforts.

Benchmark has some 82 Clos Fourtet [St Emilion] for $75, an estate whose older wines I have no experience with.

I just got an email from Gary's Wine & Marketplace in NJ.
They 2010 Leoville Barton on sale for $134.99 per, with free shipping on 6.

However, I just noticed on Wine-Searcher that it's available in NH for $5 less.

(edited to add NH info)

Cellarraiders got some interesting older BDX in

75 Brane Cantenac $45
75 Carbonnieux (presumably the rouge) $35
82 Carbonnieux " $55
66 Carruades de Lafite $95
70 GPL $75

Fuzzy memories of the 66 Les Forts being pretty good, but don't know if their first growth brethren deuxiemes were as strong in that era

K&L is offering some 2013's on the discount rack

Leoville Barton $56
Pape Clement $59

A vintage that the trade and collectors don't want, but the reviews on those specific wines seem solid enough.

1-3 cases in stock of the above.

My advice:

1. Don't make generalizations about vintages.

2. Avoid 2013 Bordeaux.

Seriously, one should taste before buying any 2013 Bdx.

Hi Mr. Howaniec,
We are almost sold out with the exception of a Cyber Monday Special we have planned which is why you couldn’t order online although the information was there. Sorry about that. I’m glad you emailed, however, because I can sell you three bottles and have it shipped you in Maine, if that sounds good. We don’t have the inventory left to sell you six bottles, but we don’t want to leave you empty handed. Thank you for your patience and I look forward to your response.
Have a great weekend!

Re St. Innocent,

I too bought three of the Fuujin and a few Village Cuvees to fill out my membership shipment. The 2014 Village Cuvee is darn tasty for the typical vin ordinaire.

Yeah, I'm passing. Those aren't particularly rare/special to me.

But long time members of this board may be more jaded, or have higher hurdles for bottles to get cellared.

The 2013 Sauternes seem to be ok, I've only tasted one.

Perhaps over the years those might the clearance bins, where I might be piqued.

Yes Bill and Bill I've been developing a nice little collection of various St. Innocent bottlings and vintages. As I've said before, that property has been a real revelation to me, it really hits a nice balance between price and quality. It's moderately priced, and the property really seems to produce great quality, um, "pure" Pinot. Love it!

Yes, '02 SI is drinking well now. Also, the 1999s are finally fully mature. Mark opened one for us after the members' tasting a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I have only one bottle. I joined only in time for the 2005 vintage.

The one vintage of SI PN that I do not like is 2011. I opened a Shea last night. It is too thin and acidic. I did not want to open a 2009 Shea to mix with it because Lucie is in Berkeley and two bottles of wine after dinner with wine (Paul Goerg and Illahe 2012 Percheron) is a bit much for me. Oxygenation helped some and Mark says to be patient with this vintage, but I am reluctant to waste storage space on his 2011s. If they do not improve by next July I'll serve them at a large BBQ at my summer Workshop. They will be OK with brisket and I can reimburse myself from my chair for the wines.

Bill, stefanJr calls the 2014 Village Cuvee a baby Shea. It is really good and has a great QPR.

I know we've been over this before, but which are the best/favorite St. Innocent vintages from 2010-present? I keep seeing various bottlings from these vintages on WineBid.

So far:
2011- avoid

2012: Great vintage. Buy and drink; buy and cellar. I think that, unlike the great 2008s, these will not go through a dumb phase.

2014: Looks very good at this point. They might go dumb for while but will provide a lot of pleasure until they do.

2013: Tricky. Less fruit than I like in OR PN but good structure. I think these will develop into pretty good wines and will be appreciated by people who approach OR PN from a Burgundy perspective. The whites are fine wines; in particular, the Pinot Blanc is the best OR PB I have tasted.

2010: I like Mark's 2010 PNs even if they lack the oomph and the complexity of his wines from some other vintages. I have no hesitation about drinking them now, but there is no hurry.

The 2011 SI Shea is better tonight after 24 hrs in the fridge. I am drinking it while eating fettuccine with sautéed tomatoes, which demands an acidic wine. I wish I had a 2014 SI Village Cuvee handy to drink side by side with the 2011 Shea. I think I would prefer the VC to the Shea even with my pasta.

I tasted the entire lineup from 2011 at the winery. Keep in mind I like a leaner style of PN with high acid. I was very impressed with all the wines but have not retasted them. I have high hopes for the 13's.

The 05's are drinking very well now.

When did you taste the 2011s, Glenn? stefanJr, who has taste similar to me, went through the entire lineup at the first club tasting and liked them. We both bought after that. By Thanksgiving the wines were not very appealing. A few months later they reached their bottom and have remained there since. Maybe they will emerge, but I will be very surprised if they are ever as good as the 2007s. I expect the 2013s to be considerably better than the 2007s, btw.

Yes, the 2005s are very good right now. I think they will stay like this for quite a while. Do you agree?

Yes stefan the 05's should have a long plateau. I bought deep in 05.

K&L has the 2004 Nairac [Barsac] for $30.

They have a lot at all locations; it is well reviewed across the major critics.

I haven't had any of the 2004 sweet Bordeaux, but the perception is that its more of a functional vintage, rather than a collector/cellarable one.

Odd numbered vintages in the last 10-15 years are the better regarded, but more costly ones.

My feel is that these are pretty much always very drinkable, no matter what the vintage/critical perception is.

This estate keeps well, we've had the 2001 and 1986 in the last year, and only the latter was tired.

HDH is having one of their very rare free shipping deals, for orders over $200.

Although prices are usually fullsome, provenance is excellent, and there can be some reasonable deals available - especially if you use the free shipping offer for large formats.

I thought the 750ml's of 2010 Bon Pasteur [Pomerol] for $52 is a fair enough deal, esp. with free shipping.

No doubt people are getting gazillions of spammy wine offers today. Here are a few that didn't look terrible
=======

Grapes Wine Co NY : 2011 Leoville Barton $60, must email them to buy (updated gone now)

PJ's NY: complicated matrix of discounts valid til Saturday. They rarely offer discounts.
Just use the codes below from now until tomorrow (Saturday, November 26th) at midnight, and save some serious cash money.
Use code 2016BF30 and save $30 when you spend $250 or more
Use code 2016BF40 and save $40 when you spend $350 or more
Use code 2016BF50 and save $50 when you spend $450 or more
Use code 2016BF60 and save $60 when you spend $550 or more

Cameron Hughes is offering 30% off, free shipping on a case, not obvious if those only lasts for the day or all weekend. His single vineyard offerings (lots 601-606) have smaller discounts. 30% off is generally the best deal ever by his standards, since the wines are good value to begin with. For those unfamilar with him, he's a Napa negociant/elevageur, and a darling of the WB crowd. (Update - they sent an email recently saying the traffic has crashed their website. Not sure what they'll do or how they will handle it)

K&L has two large formats on sale today which look fair enough. Remember these live in their own wacky pricing world once one gets beyond magnum sizes. These would be fun for the BWE SF/Napa event!
05 Langoa Barton D-Mag $300
98 Clos d'Oratoire Imperial $523

Bassins/MacArthurs is having some kind of in person/in store deals: 12% off. I realize that is not helpful to the vast majority of people here, including myself. However they too usually are not known for discounting/lightning deals/Zachys foolishness. So I thought it was worth mentioning.

Winex is having a sale on some bdx today.

If one takes a case, the 2010 Cantemerle is $38ish

They tend to sell out fast of their promotions

Also Grand Vin Merchants up in the PNW is also having a 1 day sale. They don't to do much storewide discounting, and pricing is typically a shade rich, but I suppose they rely on Californians buying, who are saving sales tax. I've had shipping issues with them (they are a UPS only vendor) so keep that in mind. A cursory look at their bdx and champers sections suggested there is some good values to be had today (NV Veuve Cliquot for $35 as an example, not as something I suggest). It almost makes me want to take them off the No Fly list.

https://grandvinwinemerchants.com/cyber ... t=priceasc

As usual, Zachys promised big day of sales looked pretty comical for bdx.

A bunch of oddball stuff hit HDH recently.

NB These all have been damned by the ratings gods.

2005 Bourgneuf [Pomerol] halves $15
1998 Larcis Ducasse [St Emilion] $15
1990 Fourcas Hosten [Listrac] mags $50
2001 de Malle [Sauternes] $30

There are decent supplies of all of them.

Bourgneuf is a vin du garde; I thought 1990 and 1998 were lovely once mature.

JJB is running their winter sale.

They have half bottles of the 2001 de Chartreuse [Sauternes] for $15 which seems quite reasonable.

I'm not familiar with it, but Coates had this to say

https://books.google.com/books?id=igIhp ... es&f=false

=============

Also CostPlus World Market is running a 1 day (12/6 only) sale on six packs of Spiegelau BDX, Burg, or Zin stems. $18 per six pack, with free shipping. Great deal, and my 'daily drivers'

http://www.worldmarket.com/product/conn ... o?&from=fn

They are not branded as Spiegelaus, but are indeed from them, just white labeled for CostPlus.
