Winex out in Santa Ana is having a quiet, but good sale on recent drinkable / non collectible BDX

https://www.winex.com/specials-PL-Borde ... -SY-4.html

Examples of values include

2012 Clos du Clocher [Pomerol] $25
2012 Bonalgue [Pomerol] $18
2012 Lilian Ladouys [St Estephe] $12
2012 Sansonnet [St Emilion] $20
2003 Rabaud Promis [Sauternes] $30

etc.

Those are the better known estates with good reviews. I've enjoyed the 2005 and 2010 Bonalgue in the last year and that's a crazy good price. It's a very solid right banker.

There are many more no name estates all at $10/per if you click through to the link.

I won't say much more than this - but Winex is more considerate about shipping/holding than one might realize.

fwiw I think the strengthening dollar has something to do with these deals.

PS: Forgot to mention K&L has the 2012 Dragon de Quintus [St Emilion] for $21. This is the deuxieme of Haut Brion's new St Emilion effort, fashioned out of the vineyards that made up l'Arrosee and Tertre Daugay. They will undoubtedly try to make Quintus a prestige offering, but for now, the market is giving a cool reception to their debut, and thus that price.

Those prices are ridiculous - up to 66% off. Wow.
I would pay less including cross country shipping than any local source - if I was in the mood to spend any $$ on those wines.

Racer Chris: I wouldn't put too much faith in the official list prices, but some of those were quite good offers, while they were available. Nearly all are gone now.

GVWM up in the Pacific is offering some items on a holiday special.

Sales are rare there, perhaps linked to their relationship to a big importer/distributor, which might limit price flexibility.

There's certainly some names that could fill out a decent 2005/2009/2010 QPR 6 pack, if one can get wine shipped to you.

They use UPS exclusively.

K&L has a bunch of the 2012 Le Plus de Fleur de Bouard [Lalande de Pomerol] for $55

http://www.klwines.com/p/i?i=1254371

One has to log in to their account to see that price, I think.

I have not had it, and don't know what its really worth, but typically this changes hands more in the $80-$100 band.

Its the luxe cuvee of the popular Fleur de Bouard.

Winex is offering a coupon -- they almost never do -- since their prices are quite attractive to begin with.

10% off starting now, til midnight Christmas.

Coupon code WINEXMAS

Their email suggests it could work on pre arrivals too.

Their Bordeaux offerings are pretty good at the moment

Those of who might wish to try a Meyney from the good old days might look at this

1990 Meyney [St Estephe] $59, case and a half

https://www.collectiblefinewine.com/199 ... au-meyney/

It's a little one man (I think) brokerage operation down in the LA basin.

Also they have the 88 Clerc Milon [Pauillac] for $58, 5 bottles

More interesting is the 2010 Alain Verset [Cornas] $27, note that its a relative, not Noel.

They also import a few lesser seen Champers.

Never dealt with them, but they have a decent rep, so I got on their email list.

PJ's is offering the 2009 Bellisle Mondotte [St Emilion] for $22.50

Must use discount code 25OFF, and purchase by Jan 1

Given that one can't really 'hold to ship' wine there, the single estate deals isn't so helpful (to me), but perhaps someone who wants a bunch of that, or is local might be interested.

That tends to be around $30 nationally.

K&L has large supplies of the 2012 Roc de Cambes [Cotes du Bourg] for $29

RdC is normally priced 2x or 3x any other wines from its AOC.

Typically it runs $40-$50ish en primeur / on release, more afterwards.

If one likes Mitjavile's style, its true to type.

Benchmark has a sale running til Monday, although emails don't seem to have been sent out yet.

I'd observe that their storage/provenance/verification are way better than most other firms.

To me, they are like the West Coast analog of HDH.

Anyways, here are some items of potential interest.

82 Coufran $35
05 La Tour Carnet $35
82 Maucaillou $35
85 Suduiraut $35
02 La Grave a Pomerol $25
95 Soutard $25
06 Clos St Martin $45
00 La Clemence $45
05 La Gravette de Certan $45
88 Poujeaux $45
95 Trottevielle $45
98 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge $55
90 Haut Batailley $55
99 Troplong Mondot $55

86 de Fargues $75

Bolded ones seem particularly good value.

Benchmark is in Napa, so those who are attending the BWE SF event, if they were in that area ahead of time (Monday - Friday) could actually pick up their wine on site.

They are a little more fussy than normal vendors in their "hold til ship" policies, at least on the web site.

My experience in person has been that there is a little more leeway.

This and the what have you bought lately are my two favorite threads, although neither applies to me. But if it didn't cost $120 or so per case to fly the wine into Hawaii that Coufran would be in my cart and on the way to check out this minute.

Good stems. They are produced by the Nachtmann subsidiary.

http://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/vie ... 1&t=136380

Call ahead to make sure your location has one, and open the boxes to check for flawed stems.

As of last week, the Sacramento Costco on Exhibition (#471) had lots.

K&L continues to liquidate Sauternes

2005 Coutet [Barsac] $30

These are full bottles

http://www.klwines.com/p/i?i=1036506

Their bdx newsletter is worth a skim

http://www.klwines.com/staff/3005pdf/Ja ... rdeaux.pdf

If one is out west and can get shipping, they are a good vendor

Also, B21 in FL has the

2008 Croix de Beaucaillou [St Julien] $30

It has solid reviews of 90 RP, and 92 NM (several times, recently, blind)

I drank a lot of the 2000 CdB in its youth, and that was lovely.

Since then, it always seemed like it was priced excessively, but $30 seems ok.

It peaked in its first decade (for my palate) but I've seen times when it did very well among blind panels early in life, sometimes coming first or second.

Finished the last bottle maybe 18mos ago, and it was still very good, but to my tastes had lost a little something.

It's become a $50-60 wine in typical vintages, so I don't see it around much (at stores or among friends), given that one can often pick up other flashier right banks for the same.

Still at $30, the 2012 looks a fair deal. 2012 and 2014 seem like lovely vintages for BWE who consume the wines.

It seems like deals have been thin for a few weeks.

Zachys has a few - they are offering the NV Duval Leroy [Champagne] for $25 currently

http://www.zachys.com/retail/ProductVie ... 46+9&Ny=64

I don't know anything about Brunello, but this 2010 for $25 also seems potentially interesting.

http://www.zachys.com/retail/ProductVie ... 25+9&Ny=64

TCWC has the 06 Lillian Ladouys [St Estephe] for $20 as well

Still, in an environment of a strengthening dollar, the bias should be toward patience, since deals will happen via the gray market.

(TotalWine sent a ridiculous email yesterday trying to flog some Rhones, at crazy prices, and tried to claim that their prices were the lowest of firms bringing in wines from official distributors)

And it wasn't even the desirable 2015s. Maybe they are being told, no 2015s for you until you take some other stuff first.

They were trying to rip on the grey market in the email.

I suspect that this might only be of value to Jim but if you have any access to NH then you may be interested. They are having a Champagne sale thru the end of the month an the best deal is 2004 Pol Roger vintage net $59.49 which is easily the best price in the country.

It's on sale for $69.99 but thru 2/26 you get an extra 15% off if you buy at least 3 bottles. I was on a mission yesterday to try and cobble together 2 cases and went to the two Hooksett stores on RT93 and almost cleaned them out. While I was there they told me Store #50 in Nashua has 19 bottles vs the online inventory shows only 3. I was told you should really call ahead to the stores to verify what's on hand since they have little faith in what the website says. If you do happen to go to the Nashua store on DW Hwy in Nashua let me know and I can meet you there. It would give us the chance to finally settle up on those bottles of 2012 du Tertre I've been resisting drinking!

I was also told that what is in the stores now is it for inventory, none left in the warehouse.

JJ Buckley is offering

2010 Clos Marsalette rouge [Pessac Leognan] $25
2001 Moulinet [Pomerol] $26

Not familiar with them but the first is in the Comte de Neippberg family of wines.

Bassins has the

2009 Bel-Air [Pomerol] $28

Flickingers has

2010 Joanin Becot [Cotes de Castillon] $19.50
2012 Clos Lunelles [Cotes de Castillon] $20.50
2009 Clos de Jacobins [St Emilion] $36
2013 Canon [St Emilion] $42
(as Stefan notes, this is a risky vintage so this is not likely a deal)
1983 Haut Batailley [Pauillac] $50

NB The last vendor has many conditions for dealing with them

Also - starting on Friday Feb 17, Wallys in LA/Beverly Hills is having their tent sale. Wine will be sold online too, but the best deals are supposedly onsite. They are like the LA basin version of Zachys, with a well heeled clientele, so make little attempt at being price leaders. Maybe once in the last 3 sales have I found anything that was objectively reasonably priced, for someone who would be willing to purchase over the internet, and deal with shipping. They sent a flyer claiming they would be offering items like the 2010 Batailley for $50 etc. which sounds OK except that others were bringing it in for a shade less, not too long ago.

Perhaps someone can make use of this Free Shipping code for Zachys

FREESHIP2017M0207

Works til Feb 28th.

I was thinking about the whole shipping issue last night - I am really reluctant to buy out of state and have items held until I have a case ready for shipment.

It seems like a real mess what is happening in a number of states with the shipping stuff.

I'll wait til there is more clarity on what the rules are.

There's more too here on the link like $60 Calon Segur. I've bolded a few above that seem ok.

Clearly they are much more willing to discount the non collectible vintages than the 2009's and 2010s.

Random things at K&L

2004 La Temperance Prestige [Haut Medoc] $15 from Bernard Magrez stable
1998 Malescasse [Haut Medoc] $20

good supplies of both of the above

2001 Rayne Vigneau [Sauternes] 375ml $22
2010 La Dauphine [Fronsac] $20
2012 Gazin Rocquencourt [Pessac Leognan] $25
this estate is usually hard to find
2014 Cantemerele [Haut Medoc] $28
2012 l'Arrosee [St Emilion] $35
2014 Lafon Rochet [St Estephe] $35
pre arrival

These 2012s and 2014s seem to offer tremendous value, perhaps because of the dollar, and the lack of speculator pumpage. But the reviews look solid.

K&L lets one hold orders for 3mos and do will call pick up which is handy for those traveling to BWE SF event

PS: Winex is offering the 2010 Rollan de By [Haut Medoc] for $20 I think AlexR mentioned once that its owned by the Greysac people (or vice versa) and they are neighboring plots of land as well.

These are full priced, but the 1975 Pomerols were quite good, and don't come up often.

These look like full cases as well, which usually is a proxy for good storage.

1975 Nenin
1975 Petit Village

They're at Chambers St. Wines, in NYC, a reliable source for older wines, since they guarantee them.

$90-$100 per

This almost never happens, but last night I saw some other (unrelated) deals and was mulling over buying them, but my computer was being buggy, or maybe it was the internet connectivity.

And by this morning, the retailer had sent out an email, and everything I was interested in, was gone.

I was even thinking when I was looking at their website, what an unusually rich opportunity set, that I don't normally see on my infrequent clicks on to web property.

Zachys is out flogging a couple items this morning

1970 La Gaffeliere [St Emilion] 375mls $26.50
2012 La Creation [Pomerol] $26

The latter is the rebadged Ch. Tour Robert estate. If one obtains an MBA, coursework includes teaching young marketers how to sell Fords to the bourgeois -- by calling them Lincolns. I suppose the MBA theories have infected the Libournaise too.

I think Zachys has that in stock for $30 at the moment

They are also flogging the 14 d'Armailhac for $40 this morn

It seems like Z. has decided they don't want to be long 2014's

Wine Library in NJ has numerous cru classe 2014 on offer, with free shipping, no minimums. Arriving in May.

https://winelibrary.com/search?utf8=%E2 ... &commit=Go

Gruaud Larose $50, d'Armailhac $40, $45 Giscours, L.Poyferre $57, R.Segla $59, Pape Clement $66, Duhart Milon $65, and so on

If one is saving sales tax, shipping, and doesn't have to buy solid cases, the prices seem ok. Especially given that these are just being released i.e. have not been sitting cooking retail shelves and being discounted years later. I think retailers realize with many good vintages (2012, 2014, and prospectively 2015 and 2016) they need to get this out of their system, lest they be hit with losses.

I quite like the retailer, although they were better in the past.

That's some good enablement, Arv, well done.
I think I'll pick up some 2014s this weekend and try some in the name of science.

I don't ever recall seeing the Papal One at such prices. Alas I'm a lapsed.

AKR wrote:There is a small flurry of 2009 Figeac being offered around on prearrival, off the fresh NM article.

$200 at WineLibrary, $215 at Flickinger.

Generally been more like $250ish, although no idea if it actually moves at that price.

2015 has been flogged recently at $150 by Winex as well.
Garagiste is offering 2015 Figeac at $137, and the 2015 Pape Clement rouge for $80 this afternoon.

Capacity controlled.
