Zachys is having a quiet Brunello sale, where prices are NOT posted online, that ends very soon. Have to use the special code - ANDREWS PROMISE - when ordering, and supposedly the receipt that is booked will have the adjusted pricing. I don't think the sale prices show up on the order ticket.

Basically they are selling all these 2010's for $30 per, which is about what I (cynically) think most Brunello is really worth.

395497 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta di Sesta 2010 $49.99 95JS
396983 Brunello di Montalcino Solaria 2010 $75.00 95JS
397918 Brunello di Montalcino La Torre 2010 $59.99 94WA
398069 Brunello di Montalcino Sasso di Sole 2010 $49.99 93JS
396353 Brunello di Montalcino La Rasina 2010 $65.00 94JS
395184 Brunello di Montalcino La Colombina 2010 $47.99 95WS
398731 Brunello di Montalcino Collosorbo 2010 $50.00 94WS • 94WE
397145 Brunello di Montalcino Fornacina 2010 $55.00 95JS
403737 Brunello di Montalcino Canalicchi Pacenti 2010 $55.00 95JS • 95WE

They'll hold orders til Fall shipping season, and surprisingly, I've found their shipping costs cheaper than most peers.

Don't know if any of the above are actually any good, but perhaps the cognoscenti here can comment on that.

Zachys has kicked off their annual Bastille day sale with savings on all of their in-stock French wines. What caught my eye was the 2013 Coutet 375ml marked down to $17.99 (from $23.99). I am sure there are other deals so happy shopping!

Winex has their Bastille day sale going on today. 10% off on French wines, use promo code MERCI.

They usually have decent pricing, some examples that might be attractive to enthusiasts, prices mentioned are after the discount

12 Haut Bergey $22.50
12 Clos du Clocher $31.50
12 Rouget $31.50
12 La Croix St Georges $36
05 La Violette $59
12 Tour St Christophe $22.50
12 Barde Haut $25.50
12 Canon La Gaffeliere $54

There are lots more though, unfortunately no way to filter out the prearrivals. (It's not mentioned but I doubt those are discountable)

I think its only good for today.

PS: as of tonight, they sold out of many things faster than I would have thought, including the Barde Haut.

Benchmark is running one of their bin end sales, and prices are good.

https://www.benchmarkwine.com/pages/bin_sale

I would note that they tend to have well stored, verified provenance inventory.

It's worth a look, although things are getting picked over very fast. For example

https://www.benchmarkwine.com/collectio ... =&vintage=

Also HDH has a couple of things that might be of interest

2005 La Prade [Cotes de Francs] $20
2000 Clos des Jacobins [St Emilion] $30

About a half case of each of the above.

Enjoy

HDH has a few deals this morning, quantities are under a half case of each.

1989 Chasse Spleen [Moulis] $56
1998 Moulin St Georges [St Emilion] $27.50
1999 Petit Plince [Pomerol] $17.50

That 98 MsG in particular is excellent. I enjoyed more than a case of that up in its youth, and that price is approximately what it was on release. DavidG schlepped a case up from Maryland for me, in fact. (Thank you!)

Don't know anything about the Petit Plince, and assume its Plince's deuxieme. 1999 was an ok/solid vintage for Pomerol, and that price is very low for something with age, from that high rent district. But again, haven't tried it ever.

PS: Winex is out this morning flogging CVNE / Vina Real Rioja Reserva 2010 for $20, however price only shows up when going to checkout. Most Bordeaux enthusiasts would like the CVNE house style for Rioja. Old school, ageable, traditional.

Grand Vin up in the PNW has the 1996 La Mission Haut Brion [Pessac Leognan] for $200

They are basically the retail storefront for Bordeaux Wine Locators, a negociant/importer. So a lot of their stock has a good supply chain -- in that it is short/known -- but it also means that its usually difficult for them to discount, since someone can easily keep an eye on what they are doing.

For those who remember its pricing on release...ouch. But in the context of where LMHB changes hands at nowadays, its not bad.

K&L has a case+ of the 2013 Gruaud Larose [St Julien] at $43

As well as a few of the 2001 Le Prieure [St Emilion] at $29

Need to be logged in to your account to see those prices.

If one could drink off vintage Gruaud at a restaurant at that above price + some modest markup (like $20) that would actually be a reasonable proposition.

=====

HDH has some modern, Deroncourt built St Emilion's as well

2001 Clos d'Oratoire $28
2005 Bienfasance $32

The above have good reviews, if that matters.

HDH has a case of the 2005 de Cruzeau rouge [Pessac Leognan] for $25.50.

I've not had it but it got 90RP at one point.

Current good releases are about the same price point, so one isn't paying a premium for a great vintage, with some bottle age.

======

Also I was walking around yesterday and noticed one single 2000 Beychevelle [St Julien] for $80 in downtown NYC

https://www.yelp.com/biz/wall-street-wi ... t-new-york

Maybe if someone needed an emergency bottle of an event that could be handy.

======

Added later

these are some items from Flickingers sale which probably ends today and doesn't have much quantities

they have lots of weird rules, so research them before transacting

12 Blason d'Issan $20
10 Bernadotte $17
08 Canon $54
08 & 10 Fontenil $20
10 Franc Mayne $23
12 Giscours $37
75 Greysac (mag) $29
12 Haut Batailley $30
89 Haut Marbuzet $40
12 Fleur de Bouard $22
10 La Tour Figeac $30
05 Lafaurie Peyraguey $32

Prices seem attractive.

The 2005 Raymond Lafon splits for $17 aren't too bad at K&L.

Never had the Clarendelle but they have mags of 2009 for $26 as well.

Some relationship to Haut Brion, but mass production wine, probably more in the negociant mold.

Although when you consider at $69 it is the same price as the 2015 as a future ... of course, the new great vintages are always the best ever, each surpassing the last great vintage ...

If it were me I would choose 2015 Petit Village over 1995 Petit Village at the same price. Of course, at that price, I would buy neither. Just another mediocre wine that happens to be in the great appellation of Pomerol. (Like de Sales, Rouget, Gazin(?), etc., etc.)

That's a very attractive offer Gerry.

========

PJ's has a coupon for a few days. They don't really have that many sales/promotions so it seemed worth mentioning. Unfortunately I find their shipping provider (UPS only) and prices for shipping (about 50% more than peers) makes it a little hard to justify for where I am. Their spectrum of Spanish wines remains superb though.

The codes below are only good for 48 hours, i.e from Sunday August 28th at 12 pm noon to Tuesday August 30th at 12 pm noon.

Use the following codes when you check out to save:

2016LD60 save $60 when you spend $550 or more
2016LD40 save $40 when you spend $350 or more
2016LD30 save $30 when you spend $250 or more

TCWC has some 2005 Clos Margalaine [Margaux] for $25. One might be able to get an additional discount if they buy a mixed case. Call to confirm, as they used to offer that deal on some wines and IIRC that one was one the list. It's the deuxieme from Marojallia, and the little wine did get decent notes from RP.

2001 Le Gay, Pomerol ($79.99)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of blackberries, licorice, violets and berries. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a gorgeous finish. Very serious for the vintage. This is as good as, if not better than, the outstanding 2000. Le Gay is back. (JS)" (03/2004)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dark ruby/purple, with notes of black raspberries, damp earth, minerals, plums, and a hint of mushrooms, this is a strong effort from Le Gay. It displays medium body, moderate tannin, and none of the rusticity that recent vintages have often possessed. Nevertheless, patience will be required. (RP)" (06/2004)

There is a small flurry of 2009 Figeac being offered around on prearrival, off the fresh NM article.

$200 at WineLibrary, $215 at Flickinger.

Generally been more like $250ish, although no idea if it actually moves at that price.

2015 has been flogged recently at $150 by Winex as well.

K&L has a 6+ cases of the 95 Chauvin [St Emilion] for $35.

http://www.klwines.com/p/i?i=110266

RP reaffirmed its 90 RP score and 2025 drinking window last summer, which help validate the price for those not so familiar with the estate

I had a bottle of the 2000 recently and its lovely. The estate is about 20 min walk east of Cheval Blanc, Figeac etc.

1995 St Emilions are in general in a very good spot right now.

Midweek mature right banks

2001 du Cauze [St Emilion] $20 87RP
2008 les Gravieres [St Emilion] $25 91RP
1999 La Tour Figeac [St Emilion] $30 86RP

Those are at TCWC and they have at least a case of each.

I've had some good vintages of du Cauze, and its ok. That price is cheaper than it is typically on release.

I think I have a Gravieres, although have not tried it. Maybe I have an 05.

La Tour Figeac made good wines in that era, I remember 1998 and 2000 as being very nice. I took some of those years in large format on a lads ski trip a couple of years ago and they were in fine form.

K&L has a case of the 2005 Monbrison [Margaux] at $35/per.

Neil Martin gave it an 87, blind, back in 2009 in his WineJournal.

It's unclassified but usually costs more than one would think.

Normally finding that estate cheaper is sort of lucky, and 2005 is a great vintage for Margaux AOC.

Good memories of the 89 and 95 and by coincidence I just pulled an 00 for consumption sometime soon.

The above is an "ok" deal, not really great.

The next one is probably not a deal at all, but its seldom seen.

K&L also has a case of the 2005 Guillot [Pomerol] for $40 per.

Not Gombaude Guillot nor Guillot Clauzel.

I've not seen this before out here.

At one point Kermit Lynch was pitching G-G, and I tried some, but its an AFWE effort, with a Parker price tag.

Well anyways, if one wants a curiousity, that, in the rare times it wins a rating, clocks in with mid 80s, there you go. At least the odds are that no one at a wine tasting event will have seen/tried one before.

And that's worth something on some metric!

It's rare for Total Wine to have good deals on Bordeaux, but my local one (Sacramento @ Arden) does have some attractive offers right now. I spoke with a staffer and they thought it was because these are closeouts/bin ends, so they might only be in the Northern California region. These prices are also eligible for their coupons, which they throw at people via email, as well as the standard "buy 6, get 10% off" promo they always have. The current live (at least til 10/2) coupon for my area is 15% off a mixed six, and that is PLU 2319 for the cashier. These prices are not available on line (I checked), and I've shown the price after the 15% discount, if one buys six mixed of anything.

09 and 10 de Sales [Pomerol] $26.50
05 and 09 de Cruzeau rouge [Pessac Leognan] $21.25
10 Carbonnieux rouge [Pessac Leognan] $29.75
08 Haut Bages Liberal [Pauillac] $29.75
10 Fourcas Hosten [Listrac] $17.00
09 Baron de Brane [Margaux] $25.50
12 Canon La Gaffeliere [St Emilion] $51
this is not on special, but the net price is ok

These are all cellarable vintages, with solid RP/NM reviews, and the lowest prices nationally on the free level of WS.

Its strange now how sometimes one finds lower prices in stores, than on the internet. I was at some place last month which had current release Gonon's St Joe for $40 in store, and on line, they were selling it at the national $57 level.

Anyways, if you have a TW in your area, it's worth 15 min to skim their BDX section, and look for the reddish/orange tags, marking closeouts. They did not seem to have any of those in the Rhone or dessert wines section, and maybe only 1 in the Champagne area. YMMV of course.

Ben at CellarRaiders has the 82 Lagrange [Pomerol] for $49, and some 00 Les Hauts de Pontet Canet [Pauillac] for $15.

One doesn't see the other Lagrange much. I have had a few vintages. It's ok, a bit rougher than the usual smooth Pomerol though.

I hear good things about Ben, and we've used him for filling out verticals in the past, but I have not bought anything directly from them.

They strongly prefer website transactions vs. calling.

CellarRaiders has some 70 Giscours [Margaux] for $79

Neil Martin regards it as one of their great examples, and discusses it in his recent deep dive on this estate.

Random curiosities at Flickingers. I have friends who like them, but their Terms & Conditions don't work for me, so read those carefully if interested.

90 Beaumont [Haut Medoc] $25
70 Belair [St Emilion] $25
82 du Glana [St Julien] $25
86 Poujeaux [Moulis] $35
81 Beychevelle [St Julien] $39
(signs of seepage, though)
78 Grand Puy Ducasse [Pauillac] $39 (WA rating on their website is wrong; it's only an 82)
93 Cos d'Estournel [St Estephe] $50
00 Clos Dubreiul [St Emilion] $77
82 Duhart Milon [Pauillac] $100

No idea if that last one is really a deal or not, but it's well regarded, and Duhart seems to have a disproportionate demand for it.

I'd note that the 93 Cos was actually a pretty good wine. I seem to remember it being $25 or $30 around release and it drank well for longer than expected.

K&L just got in a boatload of 2001 Guiraud [Sauternes] for $55

My guess is 10-20 cases or so (at least 10 is showing publicly)

NM has refreshed his views on this a couple of times in the last few years and continues to praise it, and predict a long lifeline.

That price is less than what I paid EP a decade and half ago.

Only 1 lonely bottle left now!

Currency effects may mean US firms are cleaning out UK supplies of fine wine.

Sterling has dropped to generational lows, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of this (and other fine wine) is coming from the other side of the pond.

They put their BDX choices on a PDF. It doesn't seem sortable.

http://www.zachys.com/uploadedimages/Do ... 3-2014.PDF

Seems like they are brokering this for some negociant?

My general rule of thumb is that if one can get large formats without having to pay a premium over the 750ml price x quantity its usually a fair enough deal.

Eyeyballing a few there seemed like there are still huge premiums embedded in many of those.

And even then, I think the kind of people who will open super huge bottles (Imperial+) aren't going to want some of the smaller estates on that list.

89 Suduiraut [Sauternes] $50 ex chateau stock supposedly, on pre- arrival . There is a lot of bad half bottles floating around, this is a full one.

2005 d'Arche [Sauternes] $25
2008 Rieussec [Sauternes] $33

They are up in the PNW, full size bottles, btw.

The latter is a good deal in particular.

82 Clos Fourtet [St Emilion] $75
90 Filhot 'Creme de Tete' [Sauternes] $59

The first seems like a reasonable price. I don't think I've ever had it.

The CdT is rarely seen, and to my knowledge, was only produced in that one vintage.

It is quite good but may be tipping over now. Mine are long gone!

TCWC has half bottles of the 2005 Carbonnieux [Pessac Leognan] rouge for $15

There seems to be some minimum purchase required. (I'm guessing 6?)

That's an attractive price for a well regarded wine.

I know the blanc is liked more by folks here, but I don't care much for white Graves generally.

I cellared (and I think finished) this house in 95, 98, 00 although more recent vintages have fallen off my radar screen.

If it wasn't for the minimum order size I'd try one.

I like the estate, but I'm not sure I'd want to drink it a half dozen times, when I have so much on my "to do" list :)
