TN: 09 Chantegrive 'rouge' [Graves]

Post by AKR »

09 Chantegrive 'rouge' [Graves] Again I'm assuming they make a white, but don't know, so I'll just note that this is their red. I had the 2010 a few months ago, and liked it enough to purchase more, so figured I should check out the 09 too, which is roughly the same price, and quasi locally available. 13.5% abv on the label. Medium bodied. No bricking. A little cigar / pipe aromas on the nose. It's got a little grip. Over two days, in good stems, and with air, I still get a little hotness on the back of the palate. I liked the 2010 better. I opened this early to see if I should get more before it disappears, and I'm not convinced. Objectively its good, very solid, and should age ok -- but doesn't feel as complete to me as the 2010. Maybe not the best wine for summer drinking on the veranda when its hot. I'd give it a B, with some upside. I do not think I will reload on this.

Chantegrive is an old standby, so I'm sorry you didn't like it in this vintage.
In its defense, the price is pretty low and the white is much more regular.

They also make an AOC Cérons.

White Chantegrive (Cuvée Caroline) is better than red version. Alex is right as value is fine for the money.
