2014 pricing

Post by JimHow »

I haven't been paying attention but I've seen some prices here and there: the first growths, including Lafite, in the $300s; Lynch in the $60+ range; just saw Malescot listed for $42 at Zachy's. These seem like rational prices to me, what's the buzz?

Isn't $60 a little high for a cru bourgeois?

Maybe it's the start of the long anticipated post-Parker price collapse? Even if it were a great vintage, who has the megaphone to announce it to the world? Neal Martin seens a good bloke, but he ain't gonna stoke the flames like Parker (still) can. Tanzer is nearing retirement it seems and anyway his scores are always too conservative to support ever higher pricing. Suckling is somewhere in Tuscany, and he lost his claret cred a while back. Who's left?

I'm sure China's stock market retreat and the ongoing Greek crisis can't help either.

By the way, you can see all of Neal's 2014 initial barrel scores (along with some other critics') for free here :
