I bet if the caravan people promised to come to his next inauguration and cheer without being paid, Trump would welcome them with open arms.

I got invited to Dick Cheney's inauguration. I think it was the first one. (I didn't go)

What a heady world that was - a time before before eternal war, and an era of cheap Bordeaux

Yes but these include MS13 who hacks up its victims with machetes.

Europe has an ocean to protect them.

America's soft underbelly has no moat.

Scary dark times.

We are sinking into extremely dangerous times.
Fascism, incredibly, has taken root in America.
We live our normal lives, working, going out for dinner, watching TV.
But soon somebody is going to be assassinated.
Because of Donald Trump and Fox News.
The other elements in our political life have contributed, but the Trump/Fox coalition are tearing apart our country.
And most of the population does not even know it is happening.
Somebody is going to get killed here.

Do you really believe this Arv? Where are you getting your low quality information?

Edited to add: These people are willing to walk over 1200 miles to seek a better life. It is ludicrous to believe that members of MS13 are hiding within their numbers so they can come to the US and hack up our children.

I don't think the solution to these problems is to 'Abolish ICE'

The Abolish ICE movement was in response to an out-of-control government agency, not a desire to have open borders.

Correct. Any suggestion to the contrary is an attempt at creating a false equivalency.
No leaders on the left are inciting violence or calling anyone on the right our enemy. Public confrontation of our elected officials is well within first amendment rights.
If snowflake republicans (who already have secret service details) can't face angry constituents who want to speak their mind, maybe they should stay home and use Uber Eats.

I think we need our ex presidents to make a statement condemning the increasing violence and intolerance in our society today. Another mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue this morning.

Why won't the current president condemn the most recent attempted act of violence against his immediate predecessor? Rather than tone down his own violent rhetoric, he blames the increasing violence and intolerance on journalism.
If the ex presidents did as you suggest, the current president would call it an attack on his presidency.

I am not holding my breath for ex presidents calling out Trump administration and his enablers about their political rhetoric. They are totally subscribed to tribalism at highest level.

I guarantee that Trump et al will use synagogue incident to rally the base about second amendment.

Unfortunately, that is what the future holds, armed guards at the door of all synagogues and churches. This is just so horribly sad.

With friends like this......From Politico today.

''National security ambassador John Bolton on Tuesday called Jair Bolsonaro, the bombastic, far-right nationalist who triumphed in Sunday's Brazilian elections, a "like-minded" partner whose ascent to the presidency should be seen as a welcome development in the region.''

Bolsonaro was able to make the rather simple electoral argument - Look at Venezuela - Vote for Me if You Don't Want That

Those two nations are near each other and his argument was compelling.

And its not like the other side didn't try to kill him too, given how political violence is normalized in other nations.

Bolsanaro was severely stabbed during the campaign - an inch to the other side and he would have been dead - and he wasn't leading rallies/events the final six weeks or so, basically just staying in a hospital bed and home.

So he won by basically incoherently muttering on Facebook, with little campaigning.

But the other party has led Brazil for 15 years, and the citizenry has endured the worst depression in 100 years, so they were receptive to change.

The themes he tapped into, the fears voters globally have, will continue to play out in other countries and elections.

If you believe the 4th Turning type of books, this will not finish running the course for another couple of decades.

Predictions:

The Republicans gain 1 net seat in the Senate.
The Democrats take control of the House, but by a very thin margin, like less than 5 seats.

Probably true for the US as well. No good measures of such activity in either space.

But the impact in the EU is likely smaller due to the larger population (500+ million citizens in the EU versus 325 million residents (citizens and non-) in the US.

This is only news because we have nationwide elections in two days.

Here are mine (pretty much same as Jim's). But if voter turnout exceeds poll expectations, I think dems will do better:
The senate will remain the same or reps will gain 1 seat
The house will go to dems by 3 or 5 seats

I think total turnout is a better yardstick than early voting figures to measure favorability for dems. Generally more Republicans than dems go for early/mailin voting...

A devastating morning for the President.

Speaker Pelosi can sharpen her knives, and prepare for her Impeachment Inquisition.

Who will he blame for these losses? Who can he fire? 20 - 30 House Seats, a half dozen governorships, just brutal.

Melania must be so secretly delighted.

The voodoo dolls she makes, needling her husband, have been so effective.

Maybe he will sacrifice Speaker Ryan, and make him the scapegoat.

Impeachment talks will be highly unlikely unless Senate republicans begin to notice a stench emanating from the brown stains on their noses.
I think the first two orders of business for the house will be releasing the tax returns and investigating the cabinet.
