I still say The Donald was behind one of those Mafia concrete guys being offed in the early 80s...

Scott, i am in complete agreement with your view of the upcoming campaign.

Jacques, that's some funny/scary $hit! I was about to write that Hillary is the least scary of the bunch until I read that.

Here we go.

Consider the source, yada yada. Didn't take long for the campaign to get going. This is going to be ugly.

Saw that. I just saw an anti-Trump ad from the Dems/Clinton.
It was ugly/funny, but I'm wondering if it is going to have a big impact.

the 538.com myth….
They had Hillary at 90% to win Indiana.
They won't mention that in the fall when they claim how correct they were at the end.
They've been wrong -- badly -- a number of times in this campaign.
Fact is I predicted the electoral college results exactly BEFORE Nate Silver in the past two presidentials.
Nate Silver… I'm calling you out… You're a phony!
Gotta check his Democratic primary predictions….
He's got Hillary at 95% to win Kalifornia…
I'm going to make a prediction: Big Nate will be wrong. Bern will win CA.
I predict Bernie will win every remaining race, with the possible exception of NJ.

Bold predictions from the BD.

Also looks like you were first, but not alone, in calling out Nate.

The National Enquirer/Entertainment Tonight spin is that the Obamas and the Clintons don't play canasta Thursday nights. Do you buy the "bad blood" tabloids?

I don't know how anyone can warm up to Hillary, my little sexually charged afternoon with her twenty-five years ago notwithstanding.
Still, she is his ticket to the preservation of his legacy.
And you have to believe he relishes getting The Birther,

Haha. I can only imagine the dynamic between Hillary and Michelle. Barry will be holding his nose campaigning for her and hearing from Michelle the whole time. I'm guessing he would love to stick it to Trump though. The interesting thing here is that the Beltway crowd still doesn't get why Trump has juice. It may well be that the more Obama gets directly involved the stronger Trump will get. This Fall we will see the ultimate outsider take on the ultimate insider. Going to be interesting.

Just a reminder, from memory, that the last election thread was entitled "When President Romney Takes Office" or something like that.

Yes I play child psychology with myself in these election threads.

And what does the psychologist say about this thread? Or perhaps I should ask what the patient says? Did you start the thread as the psychologist or the patient? Do you know the difference or does it even matter? Could be a good screenplay here, Jim.

I like it. Didn't the Wood Man do something like that in one of his movies. The big question is going to be: How low will this campaign go? I predict it is going to go very low.

Living in DC, a Trump presidency scares the living bejeezus out of me. If anyone might provoke a dirty bomb or mass attack in our Capitol, Trump would be that guy.

The big question isn't how low the campaign will go. We know the answer to that.

The big question is whether Trump actually has a shot at winning.

Trump's lowest common denominator appeal is his greatest asset in terms of electability and his greatest liability should he attain the office. Would he be able to curb the misogynistic, war-mongering and race-baiting comments as President or would he push policies that align with his campaign rhetoric? He says that he would change gears, that getting elected is a different job than running the country and leading the free world.

If the campaign is all just reality TV a reality TV star like Trump should do well. But how would that work in office? New show, new rules, no problem? Is that a gamble worth taking? We'll find out how many believe it's worth the risk in November. That, and how many believe that the campaign version of Trump would actually be good for the country. That scares me as much as Trump himself. Maybe more.

Most Presidents realize that they will be lucky to implement only a fraction of the policies that they campaigned on. Would Trump? Would it matter if he did, or has he dug so deep a hole that he can't climb out?

On the Clinton side, I don't see Obama campaigning for her. Not whole-heartedly anyway. He'll do his duty but not much more.

I don't see the FBI finding any "there" there with the email server. That will enrage and energize the Clinton haters even more. As a result, the issue will increase in importance to the campaign in inverse proportion to its real-world importance.

We'll hear about Benghazi and Iraq. Every decision she's made in her long career in government will be used against her, without regard for its correctness. I think she'll counterpunch to defend herself on policy. I suspect she'll ignore the junior high misogyny like Trump's recycled KFC joke, thinking it's not worthy of response. It might be a mistake not to call him out on it. We'll see. I wonder if she'll be as ruthless as her competition when it comes to going negative on the other guy. If she doesn't there will probably be others or surrogates that will.

This will be the ugliest campaign in memory.

I think we're seeing the reality TV Trump. I don't think he really means half of what he says. What he would do in office is anyone's guess. I can't even decide whether on balance his administration would end up being more liked by the Left or the Right.

Dick Cheney is down for Trump. Most surprising Trump endorsement for me is Rand Paul.

Meanwhile Ben Carson is apparently helping The Donald with his Veep selection and says he may tap a Dem. The immediate question is which one?! And of course goes to my earlier point. What is this guy's true philosophy?

Rand is supporting Trump? That's amazing to me.
Trump has already said he won't pick a Dem.
I can't stand Gingrich but I think he'd be a good pick for Donald.

Rubio would be a smart Veep pick, build some bridges to the Establishment and minorities.

But that means Trump won't do it. He's more likely to tap David Duke.

I'd say Trump has little chance in the general, but we all said that about his chances in the primary. So who the hell knows?

Still, I'd give 3-1 odds that Hillary beats Trump.

I still say Amy Klobuchar would be a good pick for Hillary.
She'll probably pick Kaine or McAuliffe from VA.

That Castro guy seems like a lightweight, probably just the perfect finger in the air kind of pick that would thrill Hillary and Huma. Yuck.

If she goes conventional and avoids an all-female ticket, Kaine seems like the choice (though I hear he is a bore on the campaign trail). Hickenlooper in Colorado wouldn't surprise me either, though he may not have a big enough profile nationally.

The last time a Clinton picked a Veep he went outside the box and picked a fellow baby boomer white male from a nearby southern state.
I think Huma and Hillary are going to have to go with a young latino male, especially if Trump picks Little Marco.

I actually think Christie fits right into that Trump image, the angry white guy message.

Christie would be risky geographically and stylistically. They are the same. Supposedly Kasich is high on the list. Ohio is critical.

Hillary can lose Ohio, Florida, Iowa, and Colorado, and still win if she takes Virginia, PA, NH, Nevada and the rest of the "Blue Wall".

Re: President Trump

Indeed. I can't stomach Kasich, I think he's a fraud. He gives us that aw-shucks bullshit but he is as right wing and filled with religiosity as the worst of them. His shit doesn't stink. I tend to subscribe to the old adage that the Veep candidate doesn't have much of an impact on a race. (See Dan Quayle.) If I have to listen to Kasich or Rubio through the general that's going to really suck. I hate phonies. That's why I can't stand Hillary/Huma.
