04 la Vieille Cure [Fronsac] After a few days of non Bordeaux wines, we decided to get back to basics. From a restaurant wine list, popped and pour, with duck. Tight nose, eventually reveals some oak. Dark, purplish, not much evolution color wise here. Has earth, wood, and still some gentle tannin. Not that much fruit to be honest. I should have requested this be decanted. btw great list and stemware at Marseilles in midtown NYC. Long time since we've been there. Despite the good critical reviews, I was left non plussed. Would not buy this 04 again. Actually not that familiar with the estate, although I think I've squirreled away 09 and 10. I guess a B- for me.

The 2009 is a serious fruit bomb, at least it was on release.
