We will do our 16th annual BWE convention in that great bastion of democracy, that beacon of goodwill, common sense, and dedication to the public good, Washington D.C. We have discussed doing it during the weekend of Thursday, March 31st, Friday, April 1st, Saturday, April 2nd, Sunday, April 3rd.

I have received a request to do it a little later, on the weekend of April 14th-17th. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jim,

You wrote: "that great bastion of democracy, that beacon of goodwill, common sense, and dedication to the public good".

Do I detect a note of irony?

No, that would be sarcasm.

I will be in DC that weekend attending our Academy's mid-year forum and lobbying meeting.

Lobbying?

Do you mean that special interest groups actually attempt to influence our lawmakers?

Is it? We usually go the weekend of April 1st and that's been the peak weekend, although I think it has been early the last few years.
Either weekend works for me.

Jim,
Hopefully you and Nic can coordinate and visit together.
I have some good bottles stashed for your visits.
Maybe even a 1989 Pichon Baron. HAHAHAHA
BUT Claire (my daughter) can't have any since she voted for 1989 Lynch Bages (under duress with undo influence from the BD).
But if y'all are real good could be a bottle or two of 1989 Lynch Bages.
And a 1990 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse.
I promised I'd save one for Nic and it's still here.

Wish I could make it but using my vacation time to take the kids on a trip just before that.

I'm now locked into public school calendars for holidays, sigh.

Easter is March 27.
Passover starts April 22.

I want to attend this one. But I suggest a restaurant that is not Charlie Palmer. The facilities are nice but the food is meh.

It is on our calendar, BD.

Charlie Palmer has done a good job for us. The food is not exactly cutting edge but is certainly OK and everything else about the place has been very good. Anyway, I trust the hard working DC area BWEers again to host a wonderful convention wherever they choose.

Ok, it is noted and in the agenda.

We need to think about a special Tasting there for April fool day. All 2013? Or a vertical of the "biggest joke" red Bordeaux?

The 1993 Batailley could work for April 1st.

I looked into acquiring a couple of bottles of 1993 Batailley for our last DC convention. Found only one place, in the UK, that wanted something like $200+/bottle. I figured it wasn't THAT boring.

Marcs, what restaurants would you recommend? I would love a place with more interesting food but not if the space is too cramped to facilitate the social aspects of the dinner.

I don't live in DC and don't get down there that often, so I would be delighted to hand off planning responsibilities to someone with more intimate knowledge of the dining scene there.

Mags of 1811 Yquem, 1900 Margaux and 1947 Petrus. Blind tasting, the Rudy K cuvées vs the real thing. I'll bring the fakes. Nic you bring the real ones.

We did The Palm one time right? It was Rhones I think. And DavidG brought a Sine Qua Non.

Or there was the restaurant where we had dinner with some 89's . Stefan and Jay and David?

But Charlie Palmer does pull it off well.
