2010 Cantemerle: $43.80 at Premier Cru - In Stock!

Post by Blanquito »

2010 Cantemerle for $43.80 at Premier Cru in stock, but you have to order this Friday & Saturday (October 23-24, 2015) to get that price. It will say $72.99 on the website, but orders made this Friday & Saturday will have 40% taken off before the credit card is run...

if they let people switch from pre arrivals to that (at that price) without a penalty that could be ok.

grand vin up in either Oregon or Washington had some too, a shade cheaper.

however those guys only ship UPS, which for me is vexatious.

I thought about buying, but my exposure is too large. I am trying to find out which of my wines are on the container that PC says is being delivered this month. Anything not on it I would be willing to trade for some in stock items, 2010 Cantemerle being one of them. As Arv mentioned, the Cantemerle price is just OK; certainly not so attractive that I would give new money to PC for it.

Yeah, not a smoking deal, I got mine for $36 as prearrivals. Arv's idea is a good one, I wonder if they would go for it (allowing prearrival credit to go for in stock stuff at the on-sale price).

Stefan, assuming you're willing to share, please let us know how it goes with PC. Even though I am recently cashed out, I am still quite interested in how it all shakes out. I recall in Sept 2013 I was starting to sweat as they owed me a ton of stuff and very little had come in for what seemed like ages, then 7-8 cases of stuff showed up in late October of that year.

WS Pro shows 2010 Cantemerle available in a few places at that price or less.

I actually would not quibble too much about the price per se, if I was trying to switch out prearrivals for instock -- which is even assuming they would be willing to do that. I would do that trade because its actually a desirable and authentic wine in all likelihood. Everything else that is typically ever there is not very desirable at this point, and is priced atrociously (becuase it is reflecting the haircut they are asking futures buyers to absorb to unwind the transaction). And some of the elite stuff in their private room is suspected of being in Rudy K school of provenance.

FWIW a big slug of 2010 Cantemerle must have recently made its way here, since all the big national bdx pimps have been dutifully flogging it via email / web site the last 2-3 weeks.

I hope you get your stuff Stefan.

Yes I've noticed that.
Everyone is promoting 2010 Cantemerle all of a sudden... since I rated it 98 points, of course.

I prefer when they list it this way, cause when it says "BWE 98 pts", I'm never sure who they're referring too.

All this 2010 Cantemerle enablement, especially Jim's praise, has me tempted, as does Parker's note below. It's just that needing 10 years of cellaring that's holding me back.

The wine needs a good 7-10 years of cellaring and should keep for 30 more years, but this is the finest Cantemerle I have encountered in my professional career of tasting young vintages (dating back 34 years now). Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well-integrated. Everything is delicately entwined into this beautiful, medium to full-bodied, dense purple wine, which shows stunning character and a prodigious potential for development. This is definitely a major sleeper of the vintage and even better than I thought from barrel.

With its 2010, this classified growth located in the southern end of the Medoc may well have made a modern-day version of their legendary 1949.

Drink 2020-2050.

94+

Looking at his notes on the old vintages, I think he may have meant to compare it to the 1953, though he has very nice things to say about the 1949 as well.

Uh-oh, looks like I'm gonna get held back in Mrs. Grissom's math class.
