Complimentary Burgundy Tasting At Zachys May 20th

Post by PappaDoc »

Hi Guys,

Zachys was doing this Tasting at Citi Field the new home of the Mets. The Charge was $75 per ticket in advance, $100 at the door. It was canceled at Citi Field because of pontential liability issues. All profits were going to the Famous Met player Rusty Stuabs Childrens Foundation.

The persons that bought tickets were refunded in full and in the spirit of the original Woodstock, it's now a FREE TASTING! It's by invitation and I asked Andrew, Zachys Vice President, if I could post an open invitation for my friends in BWE. As you can see, the answer was yes.

I need to get your names to forward to the person registering the guest list, so please just post you names on this thread and I'll tke care of the rest.

This is a copy and paste from some of the wines that will be poured. Some are not for sale as they come from Andrews personel collection.

and will be served as a special treat that evening and will not be for sale. I'm particulary interested in tasting the 2002 Lafarge "Clos De Chenes" as it took me more than a month to locate and buy a btl for Jackdaw and one for myself back in 2004 when they were released. I think they may only be found at Auction today

Becky Wasserman, famed importer/distributor of many top Burgundy Producers will be there along with producer David Croix and famed Met Rusty Staub.

Again the event is Wed. May 20th (night before my 62nd Birthday) from 5:30-8:00PM.

You'll get to see why many critics call the 2006 Burgundy Vintage a "True Classic", As almost every example from Bourgogne to Grand Cru, at least 35 different by now, are truely enjoyable and will put a guarenteed smile on every tasters face.

For more details please go to the Zachys web page and click on "Events & Tastings"

I hope to see many of you Wed.

Cheers,

PappaDoc

Had this free taasting still been slated for Citi Field, I would have easily buried my pin-striped pride for the time being and had my Yankee butt on the 7 train to Flushing in a hurry. it's much harder for me to make it to Westchester nowadays, plus much harder still during a weekday. Anyway, thanks for the fyi PappadDoc as this sounds like a fantastic offer. Also, advanced happy birthday.

2006 Burgundy is quite delicious, from what I can tell.

Oh yeah! I've got nine bottles in my cellar, there are about twenty more in the NH system left, I'll probably buy them up. I've had a couple of those Champans and they are stunners! The regular '06 Volnay Premier Cru bottling doesn't quite match the '05, but is a beauty nonetheless.

I'll be down to Zachy's sometime in the next week or two to see you, PD, I'll be buying two or three cases of '06 Bordeaux.

Jim,

Any chance you could pick up a btl of the Champans for me?

Thanks Jim. From time to time Zachys has sales that are truely rock bottom. The "Three btl" sales of Burgundy, Brunello, and Barolos were wines sold at cost (The Beau Sejour Bescot 2005 for $65 is an excellent example) to raise capital to buy wines that will sell in the $10-$30 market. That is the "Sweet Spot" for pricing wines in todays economy.

I'm now on a very limited budget for buying wine. My weekday wines cost between $10-$20 and a btl and last me four dinners as I only drink 4-6 OZ each night. I pour half of the 750 into a 375. I drink 6 OZ the first night, finish the remaining 6OZ the next night. I then open a new 750 on the third night and repeat the process. I can have three different 375s in my Eurocave, so I don't drink the same wine 4 days in a row. The 375s, if nearly full and from a recent vintage, will keep very fresh for one or two weeks. I don't use a Vin Vac, just fill a clean 375 as high as I can. This has been working for me for some 6-7 years now.

If you have plans of going a little further south, into our little island, let us know. We can arrange on getting together some local BWErs in a local BYOB restaurant for a few.

Sounds like a good idea, Ramon, I've been battling a wisdom tooth issue the past couple weeks, finally got it yanked yesterday, getting a little re-organized here at work, but it'd be fun to try to organize something in the big city.

Jim,

Let's try to find a fitting end to that wisdom tooth issue. What's your date preference?

Let me check my calendar tomorrow and I'll come up with two or three dates. Chasse sent me an email a couple weeks ago and I've been meaning to get back to him. But we'll definitely get together in the very near future.

I urge everyone to check out that Zachy's sale, there are some good prices on 2006 Bordeaux, like $32 for Duhart, $22 for Haut Bergey, etc., etc., all in stock...

Jim - I am going back to dear old Blighty on Friday morning, back on Monday night June 1st.

I bumped into Jacques tonight at Zachys - as well as PD, of course and Jackdaw - and Jacques has planned a Monday night special at Kittle House on June 15 - think 99 burgs is the theme.

As for the 2006 burgs...I was really impressed across the board...some really splendid wines, which taste good up front, but I think will age. It is foolish to generalise so early in the piece, but I think this is a classic burgundy vintage for reds and whites alike - it doesn't have the fatness and upfront appeal of the 05s - but there is high quality across the board. The prices are steep, however, courtesy the weak dollar - but the quality in burgundy these days is mightily impressive. I think what happened is that some marketing dude rocked up a few years ago, and told the burg producers that if they got their act together, the world would be their oyster. Lots of really exciting wines - but the prices are painful.

PD I will be back in June for a major drive by.

I am around through June, but out most of July, then around from August through until the Big Enchilada, 1989 Bordeaux, October 17. I am having a dinner next week in London where 1989 LLC will feature...I suspect that we must do our utmost to get that chicatita along on October 17, but I will report back.

Thanks Pappadoc for the invite, most of the wines were terrific; I particularly loved the Lafarge Volnay Vendanges Selectionnees, the Mugnier Nuit Marechale and the Raphet Charmes Chambertin but the prices are through the roof. I bought a little of this vintage but I am still buying 2001 Cote de Nuit, 2002 and 1999 when I can find them.

I am trying to get some friends to join at the Kittle House in Chappaqua Monday June 15. The theme is Burgundy at ten years of age. If anyone is interested, either post directly on this thread or email me at jal58 at yahoo

Yes thanks for inviting us John and happy birthday!

Those burgundies certainly had a "diaphanous" quality, which no other wine region can emulate

Though $795...reduced...from $995...for the Mazis Hospices 05 mag was taking the Michael!
