BWE California 2017

Post by JimHow »

We're not sure yet whether it will be in San Francisco, Napa, or Sonoma, but we are committed to California for next March.
We'll tie down the dates and details later this summer/early fall, but I highly encourage you all to plan ahead and block off your calendars!
Looks like we'll be doing it a little earlier in March than the usual April 1st timeframe we've been doing.
More details to come….

why not April rather than March? you have less weather risk (for air travelers) when you go in April/May and that's before it gets hot.

Because I won't be in SF next April (I'll be in France) but I will be in March.

How about early May? I also had an idea: instead of doing dinners in a row, maybe a break. My palate was somewhat shot on night 3 and that's not fair for all those great wines. I realize this might mean a couple extra days in CA but that's not a hardship for us! Just my .02.

A long trip would also make it easier to combine wine country with downtown SanFran, which would be very appealing. Maybe two days visiting wineries in Napa/Sonoma with only one big wine dinner (I'd vote for a Sonoma Coast visit!!!), and then 2 dinners in SanFran on Friday and Saturday.

May would be good too. Spring is nice in Northern California.

I went to the first California convention in 2002, and never attend another there. Probably the time to go back!

May can work too - would be more expensive for folks to travel/stay but the fog shouldn't be too bad yet

In May 2017 the 'holiday' weekends are Mothers Day on the 14th, and the 29th which is Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a peak/costly travel time, although has the benefit (for some) that it may not use a vacation day.

Weekends of May 6 and May 20 don't seem to have obvious conflicts.

All good suggestions, keep thinking about it, we'll make some final decisions by early fall.
My next focus is to finish my second novel through the summer.

It is best to avoid Memorial Day. May 6 and May 20 look good. Mothers Day is not a big problem, I think.

We have gone through this before. When you factor in holidays, weddings, etc., the Final Four weekend ends up being about the only available weekend. I'm not even going to think about it until the fall.

Stefan,

Not just the wedding May 6-13 in Mayan Riviera then May 21-June 3 trip to the Holy Land....Scotland St Andrews,Carnoustie,Kings Barns and others..Unfortunately the land of golf with a great bunch of guys trumps(not the Donald) BWE convention. I'd have to pass if it's in May but my heart would certainly be with you and couldn't begrudge the timing in Napa as May would by preferable to March for me as well otherwise.

Danny

PS Looking forward to a post BWE convention get together with Stuart and Kathy in Fort Lauderdale Sat night. Should be great.

That's fine,Danny, BWE trumps golf or baseball or anything else that I can think of, we'll keep that in mind in our scheduling!

Think about flying into Sacramento the day before the Napa events. You can stay here. I'll smoke some Kailua pork. I bet Arv will come and maybe Glenn, then you can travel down to Napa for day one. Just a thought.

I actually did fly into Sacramento last time we were in SF.
Sounds like a possibility to me!

Definitely next time. It would be great to see Arv again, haven't seen him since he moved from NYC.

I'd be there 98+% likelihood, esp the later in the spring we meet.

SMF is probably slight easier to deal with for accessing Napa, instead of SFO, but will have less flights.

Traffic in Napa is beyond my comprehension.

Where are all those people going?

Something came up that likely will prevent me from coming if it is May.
