TN: 2012 La Fleur de Bouard

Post by JimHow »

Violets. Sexy. 13.5%. Beautiful, beautiful Cleopatra purple. Velvety. Great purity. I'm beginning to think 2012R is a Jim How kind of vintage in a not quite the same but similar way that 2002L was. These wines like Haut Bergey, Barde-Haut, Corbin, etc., and now this wine, seem to have a beautiful balance and finesse to them. They are pure, light on their feet, the tannins are velvety and smooth, but the wines are not soft -- there's depth to them. No intrusion of alcohol whatsoever. Each wine is marked by pure, rich ruby/purple colors, this La Fleur de Bouard may be just a touch deeper than the others, I'd have to see them side by side. They are all clearly marked by winemaking that seeks to elicit the best that the grapes have to offer. La Fleur de Bouard has been quite stunning in recent vintages and this continues the streak. It's like a lesser version of La Fleur Petrus. And, of course, at about a tenth of the cost. I recently bought six bottles of this wine and I may buy another six. Love it. 93 points.

It finished strong, although 93 might be a point or two high. Probably around the 91 points I gave to Barde Haut and Corbin.

I have been a fan of the 2000 La Fleur de Bouard for some time. A nice easy drinking French merlot. I like it better than their much more expensive (like three times as much) special selection Le Plus. I think I still have one or two bottles left. Probably buy some of the 2012 based on Jim's review and the reasonable price point - thinking half bottles as well as 750s. Also looking into more of the 2012 vintage for red Bordeaux that will mature in a shorter time frame.

I am buying more as well, both 750s for $29.99 and 375s for $14.99.

I just ordered 24 of the half bottles, they should be good for early drinking.
