Jim posted that he'd made an emergency trip to a hospital last week and was discharged with a diagnosis of the flu.

Now he's gone. Only 57 years old. So sad.

Maybe have some 1999's in honor of him.

Sad. Can't say I loved Prince, but I respect him as an artist.

He was one of those musicians who, when I first heard him all those years ago, I could not stand, and would turn the radio station.

Flash forward some decades, and gray hairs, and when his songs -- rarely -- came on the radio, I'd listen, forgetting how I disliked them on release.

I guess if I had to pick my favorite of his would be "I would die 4 U". His work was covered by lots of people too.

Oh, how the karaoke bars worldwide will be serving up 1999 and Little Red Corvette for the next few weeks.

Prince was truly an original, exceptionally talented.
He was a product of the 1980s MTV era, when they used to actually play music videos.
He was an extremely underrated guitarist.
He was an original, not derivative.
I saw him in Boston about 15 years ago, maybe, he was known for his strong live performances.
One of my top ten concert experiences, and I've seen some greats.
Ranks second on my list of all time Super Bowl halftime acts, behind Tom Petty.
I was in Boston in the mid-eighties when he came into town unannounced and did a gig at a small venue on Lansdowne Street to promote a new album, the excitement in the city was electric.
A terrible actor, though. As Dan Ackroyd would say: Bad. Very bad.
He was a baby boomer, strongly opposed to the digital music era.
As a fellow 57-year-old baby boomer, I'm very saddened.

Very sad. I like the Purple Rain CD, the intro song "Let's go crazy" is niçe, as many others.

What a hecatomb 2016 has been, for artist, up to now...

Sad but I'm sure it will likely come out as another victim of drug abuse. Last weeks flight diversion to hospital I'm told he went to ER and received a SUPPORT medication...probably narcan to reverse effects of opiod overdose and not suffering from the flu. Jumped back on plane shortly after. Truth ??? Story will come out following autopsy today. Certainly has been sad 12 months in the music world with many icons departing.

Well that's the TMZ story.
He was in need of hip replacement and refused (religious reasons) elective hip replacement.
So possible taking some heavy duty narcotics.
