2012 Oratoire de Chasse Spleen

Post by Nicklasss »

75 or 80 % Cab sauvignon, what seems unusual for a second wine.

A Moulis, in that medium weight 2012 vintage. Was it a revelation?

Julien, appreciating beef, but with apple juice instead of grape juice!

It started slowly, closed as you cabernet sauvignon can be. Color is medium red. Within 2 hours, the nose opened, medium weight, very Bordeaux with blackcurrants, darkberries, light integrated oak, strong ripe red berries with light vanilla, tobacco. In mouth, sweet young tobacco, darkberries, oak, dark prunes, medium intensity. Some very very blackberries on the final, fresh acidity, light vegetal green pepper, medium soft tannic level. A nice 2012, not very intense, but with enough complexity and Médoc character. Tn: 87.

Don't be fooled, for a second wine, in 2012, that is a good wine. Of course, limited in some ways. But for the affordable price, that is satisfying. At the same time, this makes me think that you wanted to produce a high % cab sauvignon wine in 2012, selection was important.
