2012 Hugel Pinot Noir classic

Post by Nicklasss »

Nobody will go naturally buy a Pinot Noir from Alsace. Competition is between Bourgogne (the top), New Zealand (the new hope) and Oregon/California (the phantom menace). But Alsace, with it's terroir, don't make the best Pinot, but really niçe inexpensice Pinot.

This 2012 Hugel Pinot Noir classic is cherry red. Nose is fragrant, with cherry, red berries, wet wood, flowers and very light spices. In mouth, not so complex but very convenient. I prefer that to any rosé or almost every Bourgogne at the same price range. Flavors of red berries, bitter strawberries, minerals (yes it is Alsace after all!), good acidity, light tannins, and that straight fry final on flowers and more berries. Well made, inexpensive, kind of some looks like red Sancerre, a must. I'll buy more as will be enjoyed any warm days, slightly cooled down. I like Alsace and I'll go back someday. Tn: 87-88.
