Re: Giacosa versus Cappellano
B'day coming up that is the excuse. Not a big number but it is a prime number, Herbie. If I am a good boy I will be drinking Palmer tomorrow night at some hifalutin event.
With spaghetti bolognese both wines are delicious and sublime in their own ways. The Cappellano is more high-toned, with furniture polish, ripe fruit flavours and intense cherry stones and a thrilling edginess. It also has a nobility and purity; the essence of Barolo.
The Giacosa is more laconic, translucent but initially it has a sweet entry, also most confected, which settles down into wonderful, wild strawberry and rose hip aromas. The mouthfeel is glorious, effortless, weightless and refined.
Difficult to choose between these two, difficult - indeed superfluous, irrelevant - to choose a winner. Both in their own way.
