To my taste this is a point or however you spell it. The most arresting feature and it's something that always gets me and I look for in tasting notes is an extreme brine sensation on the palate. This is joined harmoniously with a nice sweet, vaguely charcoal component. This remains fresh/piquant but is now mostly soft (think memory foam) until a slight tannic bite kicks in at the end. There's also that ferrous/dried blood sensation both on the palate and in the bouquet.

This wine was quite closed on arrival and for at least ten years. Sweet 16 I guess. This particular vintage, at least to me, would merit an "old school" designation. Great sipping waiting on the filets. Should pair well with them too.

It's really old school St Emilion indeed, but with great depth and body.

You, me and DaleW seem to be the only people who ever rave about this.

I'm fine with all the various styles/factions on the right bank, but those who want a traditional example, or find them harder to find in an increasingly monotheistic AOC, should track down a bottle. Thankfully investors do not care about this.

I like Grand Corbin Despagne. It is a classically styled St Emilion that is reasonably priced. I do have trouble getting it locally, unfortunately.

$15 is hard to believe. You should buy the entire stock.

Wow crazy good price. If you like the wine and that stock is sound, that's a load up price.

Per Wine Searcher (not pro), the cheapest price in the US for any vintage of this is $30.59 (which happens to be the 2005).

When I was in Paris, visiting that shop that timmc had suggested, I had a hard time not picking up a 1990 for $60. Instead I went with an AFWE Pessac from that year that was never imported into the US.

It sounds like the 2012's are finding their market clearing prices, and they're not at the aspirations when released.

The 2005 while not lacking in the stuffing or durability departments has always seemed more approachable than the 2000. One I regret not picking up on release was the 2001. I drank a bottle and liked it (lot of "band-aid" in the bouquet) but was persuaded (I was just an impressionable youth) by contemporary vintage comparisons to pass on picking some up. And we know now that 01 turned out a fine vintage on the right bank if not all over. The 00 is a MacArthur's import just to cap things off with a nod to Jim and his burgeoning relationship.

I have only the 2005 in the cellar, but did not open a bottle yet. At 11 years old, the wine is ok? Or how more years to wait.

Depends how you like them but I don't think it's too soon. I'm sure it will also keep. If you have more than one try it.
