Count von Neipperg (I have a helluva time whenever I try to spell his name without googling) calls this his "bon-bon" and it's an apt description. Round, fleshy, sweet, spicy, charming and with a classy chassis of racy oak, intriguing and revealing. Nicely coiffured but casually so with some silken tresses tumbling here and there. Still fresh too with a seam of acidity in just the right place. At age 12 this is like seeing that the one-time latest ingenue of the month actually has some acting chops and has gotten a good script to work with. Unfortunately this was my only bottle. Well we'll always have Paris.

This property is the real deal.

I just had the 05 last night and found while it is a well made wine, the oak was over-powering. I don't feel that it will ever integrate, but I've been wrong before.

Possibly an advantage of 2004 over 2005. Power is not the be-all, end-all, and the 2004 is very well flavored and stylish with no shortage of substance.

I couldn't get on with the 1998. Maybe time to revisit?

It will be tough to keep it that long. Marie-Claude hate moustache.

I think i never had Clos l'Oratoire. But I had every other wines from the Comte, La Mondotte, Canon La Gaffelière, Clos Marsalette and d' Aiguilhe. All good to me, well made, and Canon La Gaffelière is probably the one i like the most.

I agree.
I went thru 6 bottles of this a few yrs ago and found it to be a rather simple wine.
It tasted too much like a generic Merlot.

Aye Claudius I had the same problem! Not only did it taste like generic merlot but it tasted quite harsh with no elegance or finesse. Sometimes these wines can transform from an ugly duckling into a beautiful Swan. That's why I stuck these at the back of the cellar. Have you tried one recently? Or has anyone?

Maybe I have a mental block with the Count's wines. He looks like a cross between Ron Jeremy and Adolf Hitler.

I saw him several times at Lords in London for tastings and the Count really comes across as "upper lip" looking down on you.
I have a German friend from "noble" origins and she did not take it lightly... Poor Lady...
This being said, I have had good wines from his stable... (I have a box of oratoire 2005, a few Canon la Gaf 2004 and had a case of aighuile and oratoire 2000 (very few left)). I then stopped buying after the "clash"...
